Hi jillinnemann,

Having one long image is a bad idea, it will make your page very heavy. You can slice the image into parts and make the page of the same color as images base color and so the whitespace will not be seen.

Well, the animation is a feature of the theme and if you want to customize some part of it you will need to be able to understand css and html. Unfortunately, there is no switch to turn on or off the animation sitewide and you need to use the css provided in the documentation.
