Yes, it is possible to update. You need to update php to php7.2 or higher, make a full website backup, download the latest version of the theme ad update it via FTP by removing the old enfold folder and uploading a new one.

The cost could be 59USD if you do not have access to the ThemeForest account and cannot get the latest version of the theme.

There is not a good way to scale the image for the screen sizes up to 479px while increasing the height. You can make a separate slider to be shown on mobile screens with images better sized to be shown on mobile.
