    Good Day

    We are having issues with the theme that once UserPro is activated it breaks the look and feel of the site after switching to PHP 8 (this will soon be a mandatory upgrade, so we need to get the issue resolved asap).

    We have deactivated other plugins so that just UserPro and the theme is active and you can see below how it looks activated and not.

    UserPro Activated

    https://prnt.sc/87Pkje2AZHOF

    UserPro Deactivated

    Can you please into contact with us ASAP we just bought support.

    Thank you

    Hi,

    Thank you for the update.

    One question: is there a limit on page size?

    You might be referring to the post_max_size, which is a PHP directive and defaults to 8M. This is a very generous limitation because page sizes in WordPress averages around 60-100 Kb, depending on the content of the page. The page where the issue occurs is only 73 Kb in size.

    // https://www.php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.post-max-size

    We just noticed that the WP_MEMORY_LIMIT is set to 40M, default. You may want to ask your hosting provider to increase it to at least 128M.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi,

    Thanks! Re-installing the WordPress via FTP helped. FYI, while I was testing, I also upgraded PHP version to 8 in cPanel and I did not set it back to 7.x.

    Please review your website :)

    Topic: Contact Form Mobile

    Hi! I have a problem and can’t find the solution. I have updated theme and wordpress, php version 7.4.
    The Contacf form enfold works desktop but not mobile. I have made many attempts, set up smtp, tried to use contact form 7 (and on mobile it works). When I fill it out from mobile, it makes me redirect and tells me that the sending has been correct, but I am not receiving mail.

    Can you help me?

    Hi Guenni007 and hi Ismael,

    thank you very much for your quick replies and please excuse my late one.

    @Guenni007
    :
    Unfortunatelly I´m not familiar with child theme ALB elements yet.
    I just tried to follow your guide step by step but I couldn’t even find the headline_rotator.js file.
    Up to now I only put CSS codes into the quick CSS field or the functions.php field of my child theme.

    Isn’t there an easier way?

    Thank you very much for another reply in advance.

    Best regards,

    Getting a technical issue after update, tried replacing theme files and manually replacing latest version of WP core files, still getting a weird error.

    Hi,
    I am receiving a fatal error since some weeks regarding the memory size. In my opinion it could correlate with an automatic update to WordPress 6.0.2 on 04.09.2022. I tried several ways of fixing it but all failed. I contacted already my hoster (netcup) for an upgrade because the package includes just 64 MB php memory (what using other themes hasn’t been a problem so far). At the moment it’s still the original package as it probably is just a error of a plugin I guess. Last week I also got an automatic mail with a error description regarding enfold but couldn’t find a good fix for it.

    I tried to manually override wordpress and enfold files for a clean update but this has not had any positive effect.

    ERROR MESSAGE WHEN UPDATING THE HOME SITE:

    In reply to: Elementor + Enfold

    Hey dvalansi,
    Thank you for your question, Enfold will work fine with PHP v8 on its own, but Enfold is not designed to work with other custom editors like Elementor, so we can not predict any errors or support them. Enfold has its own built-in custom editor (Advanced Layout Builder) which can not be disabled as it is at the core of the theme.
    If everything works for you with PHP v7.4 and you want to use the Elementor plugin, then this would be your best option.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Thanks Mike. I switched to PHP 7.1 and WP 4.8, and that did the trick. Now the images are loading and I can access the ‘New Post’ page.

    However, when I go to add a new post, the editor is super old. When I type something in the post body, the text doesn’t show up. Only when I highlight it using the mouse can I see what I’ve written. remember using a block editor with my old host. Is there a way to get that back?

    Hi, I am using elementor on a few pages to make some unique designs. When I am on php 7.4, there are no issues, upgrading to php 8.0 as thrown the pages all out of whack.

    I have confirmed that the issue is indeed Enfold( switching to default theme with no plugins) and it works fine, switching to enfold and there was an issue.

    Is there something that I should look into to get this working?

    Thanks again Mike! I took a look at the compatibility chart here: https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/references/php-compatibility-and-wordpress-versions/

    Can I do the following after backing up to resolve the critical error as well as the image error?

    1. First downgrade to PHP to v7.2
    2. Then downgrade WordPress to v4.9.21 (or would you recommend 4.8?)

    Thanks
    KD

    #1364562

    In reply to: Shoutbox Magazine

    Hi,
    Thank you for your feedback, I would recommend a full backup using your webhost backup options, please don’t use a backup plugin unless you have specific knowledge on restoring it. Many backup plugins fail on restore.
    If you are using PHP v7.3 with WordPress v6.0.2 then a critical error would be expected as WordPress requires a minimum of v7.4.
    If you have disabled all plugins, downgrading to WordPress 4.8 should would correctly as the shoutbox theme was not designed to work with any higher version of WordPress.
    Please note that you will open yourself to security issues using WordPress v4.8, this should be ok if you do it temporarily while you are creating your new site, but it is not a long term solution.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike, thank you so much for your response. I have not made any changes yet. However, when I click on ‘+ new post’, I get the following error: There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

    My current PHP version is 7.3.33 and WordPress Version is 6.0.2.

    If I downgrade to WordPress 4.8, will the shoutbox theme be able to run? The only PHP versions I can change to on cPanel are 7.1 and 7.2

    Just wanted to clarify before I downgrade to WordPress 4.8. I don’t want it to break the site.

    Thanks!

    #1364524

    In reply to: Shoutbox Magazine

    Hey KD,
    Thank you for your question, but unfortunately the Shoutbox is no longer supported since 2020 and WordPress 5.0
    I see that your site has this error: jQuery.Deferred exception which could mean that you have a plugin causing the error, try disabling all of your plugins, or that you are using the newest WordPress v6+, try downgrading back to v4.8 as your version of Shoutbox was not meant to run on WordPress v5+ If you do downgrade you will need to downgrade your PHP version on your webhost to 7.4, your new host is probably using PHP v8+ which WordPress v4.8 will not run on.
    Because of this limitation, there is not much we can do to correct this error. We recommend using a modern theme like Enfold and taking this opportunity to rebuild your site. Unfortunately, your current theme can not be “upgraded” or “imported” into Enfold, you will need to build it from scratch.
    Sorry that this is not the answer you were looking for, but this could be a great opportunity to give your site an updated look and feel.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    just put his code name it f.e. prg_patterns.php therefore you had to start that codesnippet of him by a leading <?php
    – and upload it to your child-theme/shortcodes folder.
    if you haven’t allready this littel snippet in your child-theme functions.php – insert it :

    function avia_include_shortcode_template($paths){
      $template_url = get_stylesheet_directory();
          array_unshift($paths, $template_url.'/shortcodes/');
      return $paths;
    }
    add_filter('avia_load_shortcodes', 'avia_include_shortcode_template', 15, 1);

    see doku to have own alb elements

    see example in the footer area with links to impressum and datenschutz

    https://enfold.webers-webdesign.de/impressum/#footer

    i just edited his code a bit to have on form element classes to style the form output better:

    /* form output */
    ob_start();
    ?>
    	<?php if( $atts['newtab'] == 'true' ): ?>
    	<form class="prg newtab" method="POST" target="_blank">
    	<?php else: ?>
    	<form class="prg" method="POST">
    	<?php endif; ?>
    		<button class="noLink" type="submit" name="prgpattern" value="<?php echo $redirect_slug; ?>"><?php echo $atts['title']; ?></button>
    	</form>
    <?php
    return ob_get_clean();

    then i can set for those forms:

    #top form.prg {
      display: inline-block;
      margin-bottom: 0;
    }

    #top form.prg .noLink {
      border: none;
      font-size: inherit;
      color: inherit;
      background-color: transparent;
    }

    #top form.prg .noLink:hover {
      color: gold;
      cursor: pointer;
      transition: all 0.5s ease
    }

    Hi guys

    I am getting this js error on one of my sites:

    <blockquote>jquery.js?ver=3.6.0:130 Uncaught Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: #search:query=kostbarmacher&attrib%5Bsearch_type%5D%5B0%5D=product
        at Sizzle.error (jquery.js?ver=3.6.0:130:402)</blockquote>

    I have deactivated all plugins and also the enfold child theme, and the error still persists.
    We are currently running:
    WP: 6.0.2
    Enfold: 5.1.1
    PHP 7.4.30

    Can you please have a look? I can give you access if you need since this is a test site.

    Thanks for supporting
    best, Jay

    Hello!

    My client is using Enfold Theme Version 3.0.4. We are currently wanting to update the PHP version to 7, for speed and security purposes. However, it seems that this version is not compatible with PHP 7.

    Would updating the site to the current Enfold Theme version likely break everything and require us to do a big migration, or is it mostly retrocompatible?

    Website URL is in Private Content field.

    Thanks!

    Thanks @guenni007 for the tips.
    I’ve checked the “load jQuery in the footer option” in the Enfold>Performance.

    Also, can you advise guys where exactly or on which line in functions.php” to insert the script from the Code-block.
    I’ve tried but can’t figure it out.

    Selfhost Custom Fonts

    In most cases, these will be Google Fonts. The reason for this procedure is to achieve a GDPR ( DSGVO ) compliance by delivering the fonts on your own server.
    Google Fonts are under SIL Open Font License (OFL) .

    In principle, however, any other commercial font source can be treated according to this procedure.
    Only some online web font creators refuse to convert such fonts for CopyRight reasons. Of course, you must have the rights of use for these commercial fonts.

    First a recommendation: too many different fonts do not necessarily support the legibility of your page. – Apart from that, it’s also not good for the performance of your page.

    Also consider if it is not enough to offer modern font files. If you look at the support for those mime types usability of woff and woff2, you will find that all modern browsers up to mobile browsers support this format. ( only Opera Mini does not). Should we therefore offer more font mime types on our upload, or accept that these browsers then have to live with the fallback font ( Helvetica, Times etc. )? – I think this is acceptable – and supports the performance idea.

    Consider whether you really need to upload an extra italic font file. Browsers can render an italic font style well from the normal font files without quality loss. Yes – as someone who also comes from print layout, I know that italic styles can vary considerably – especially with serif fonts. But therefore burdening the performance by double upload?

    ____________

    To be GDPR compliant – you have to disable the Enfold embedding codes of Google Fonts. There are internal solutions as well as quite a few plugins.

    *Deprecated snippet removed*

    slightly newer snippet from 2018 using filter – mentioned by Günter

    function my_output_google_webfonts_script( $activate ){
      return false;
    }
    add_filter( 'avf_output_google_webfonts_script', 'my_output_google_webfonts_script', 10, 1 );

    Now:

    Preparing fonts for Enfold import/export “Custom Font Manager” needs a bit of explanation – because sometimes I see very long lists under the Custom Font Manager – because some users upload font-weights of font-families separately.

    As far as I have tested, the Font Kit Generator from FontSquirrel does not support the font family option ( The zip files uploaded afterwards usually only output the 400 font-weight. ) . This is probably sometimes the reason for the separate uploading of the different font styles.

    I prefer the Transfonter – only the option to create a demo page should be removed in the settings;

    otherwise this would also be in the downloadable zip file. In principle, this zip file is ready to be uploaded. You only have to rename it with the name of the corresponding font – (the font-family name is taken from the fonts themselves, but the listing within the Custom Font Manager is done via this zip name).

    If everything has worked so far, the font family will be displayed in the Custom Font Manager.

    The uploaded Fonts will be at : General Styling – Fonts – Heading Font (or Font for Body text ) at the end of the dropdown list “Uploaded Fonts”:

    If you select this font under Enfold Child – General Styling – Fonts for your Body Text – or Heading Font, then this font will only be loaded according to the existing font-weights. A bold (700) setting ensures that the fontname-bold is loaded.
    If you have uploaded the italic fonts and set this via css, the explicit fontname-italic or fontname-bolditalic will be loaded.

    Hey schwabino,
    Thanks for the login, I see you are gettings this error:
    Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 () admin-ajax.php
    Please see this article: How to Fix the 403 Forbidden Error in WordPress
    Often this is caused by a plugin or a server security setting, try the solutions in the article starting with disabling all of your plugins, then clear your browser cache and check again, if this helps, activate your plugins one at a time to find the error.
    If this doesn’t help, leave them disabled and note that your are using a Godaddy Managed WordPress and have a plugin that you can not disable:
    2022-09-04_020.jpg
    you will need to look at your Managed WordPress options and see what changes you can make, but often you can not do a lot, see if the article helps reveal if any security options has block any IP address, or files like admin-ajax.php, otherwise you will need to ask Godaddy for help.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the link to your page and the login, I added a custom class to your content slider equal-height-slider on your /nuova-home-2022/ page so there won’t be any conflicts with other content sliders on your site.
    2022-09-04_017.jpg
    Then I adjusted the script a little and added it to your child theme functions.php:
    2022-09-04_018.jpg

    function ava_custom_script_set_min_height()
    {
        ?>
        <script type="text/javascript">
    window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
            (function($) {
                    function setSlideHeight(element)
                    {
                        var elementHeights = element.map(function() {
                            return $(this).height();
                        }).get();
                        var maxHeight = Math.max.apply(null, elementHeights);
                        element.height(maxHeight);
                    }
                    $(window).on( 'debouncedresize', function()
    				{
                        var slider = $('.equal-height-slider .slide-entry-wrap');
                        var slides = slider.find('.slide-entry-excerpt');
                        setSlideHeight(slides);
    				});
            })(jQuery);
    });
    </script>
        <?php
    }
    add_action( 'wp_footer', 'ava_custom_script_set_min_height', 9999 );

    Now it is working:
    2022-09-04_019.jpg
    compared to before:
    2022-09-04_015.jpg
    Please clear your browser cache and check.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Rikard and thanks for your reply!

    It is about google fonts that are loaded although the are local. I uploaded Google Fonts as a ZIP file and embedded it accordingly under uploaded fonts. Nevertheless, Google Chrome fonts.googleapis.com shows that Open Sans is loaded, namely the languages: /* cyrillic-ext */, /* greek-ext */, /* hebrew */ etc.

    I checked this after Guenni007 meant this could be the problem:
    Google Maps is integrated via the theme and is not active in the basic settings of the cookies.
    The Advanced Layer Slider is not active.
    Google Analytics is not enabled.
    The two snippets are not in the functions.php of the child theme.
    For the fonts (special characters), they are loaded with the zip file:
    OpenSans-Italic-VariableFont_wdth,wght.ttf
    OpenSans VariableFont_wdth,wght.ttf
    and folders with
    OpenSans
    OpenSans_Condensed
    OpenSans_SemiCondensed

    How can I change this?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the login to your site, your site is running an outdated version of PHP (7.3.33), which requires an update, the minimum WordPress recommended version of PHP is 7.4.
    Please update your server PHP version, you can ask your web host for help:

    Hi,
    Thank you for your patience, to only have the scroll-up button for mobile on the /backhandwerk/ page, please change above the css to this:

    @media only screen and (max-width: 767px) {
    .responsive #top.page-id-102  #scroll-top-link {
        display: block;
    }
    }

    To add a “scroll to the top” function when the masonry sort option is clicked for the /backhandwerk/ page only, try adding this code to the end of your functions.php file in Appearance ▸ Editor:

    function custom_masonry_sort_scroll_to_top_script() { ?>
      <script>
    window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
      (function($){
    $("#top.page-id-102 a.avia_show_sort").click(function(e) {
    	setTimeout(function(){
      $("html, body").animate({ scrollTop: 0 }, "slow");
      return false;
    	},1500);
    	e.preventDefault();
    });
    })(jQuery);
    });
    </script>
      <?php
    }
    add_action('wp_footer', 'custom_masonry_sort_scroll_to_top_script');

    Please note that in the script I had to add a setTimeout of 1500ms (1.5 seconds) to allow the images to show before scrolling to the top so to not conflict with the masonry display animation.
    You can try adjusting higher or lower if you wish, but this may be an over all limitation because of how the masonry javascript works.
    In my tests the setTimeout of 1500ms works well if the user scrolls down a bit before clicking a sort link, please give this a try.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi,

    The issue occurs because Woocommerce just returns the declared thumbnail shop_catalog instead of using the values set in the Woocommerce > Product Images options. The function that controls the image size is located in the plugins/woocommerce/includes/wc-core-functions.php file, look for the wc_get_image_size (line 928).

    Your filter works because when the thumbnail is set to woocommerce_thumbnail, the following condition block (line 971) gets executed and return the values or options set in the Woocommerce > Product Images panel.

    } elseif ( 'thumbnail' === $image_size ) {
    			$size['width'] = absint( wc_get_theme_support( 'thumbnail_image_width', get_option( 'woocommerce_thumbnail_image_width', 300 ) ) );
    			$cropping      = get_option( 'woocommerce_thumbnail_cropping', '1:1' );

    			if ( 'uncropped' === $cropping ) {
    				$size['height'] = '';
    				$size['crop']   = 0;
    			} elseif ( 'custom' === $cropping ) {
    				$width          = max( 1, (float) get_option( 'woocommerce_thumbnail_cropping_custom_width', '4' ) );
    				$height         = max( 1, (float) get_option( 'woocommerce_thumbnail_cropping_custom_height', '3' ) );
    				$size['height'] = absint( NumberUtil::round( ( $size['width'] / $width ) * $height ) );
    				$size['crop']   = 1;
    			} else {
    				$cropping_split = explode( ':', $cropping );
    				$width          = max( 1, (float) current( $cropping_split ) );
    				$height         = max( 1, (float) end( $cropping_split ) );
    				$size['height'] = absint( NumberUtil::round( ( $size['width'] / $width ) * $height ) );
    				$size['crop']   = 1;
    			}
    		}

    Please try to edit the enfold/config-woocommerce/config.php file and look for this code around line 442.

    $size = apply_filters( 'avf_wc_before_shop_loop_item_title_img_size', 'shop_catalog' );

    Replace it with:

    $woocommerce_thumbnail_image_width = get_option( 'woocommerce_thumbnail_image_width' );
    		$default_size = $woocommerce_thumbnail_image_width == 300 ? 'shop_catalog' : 'woocommerce_thumbnail';
    		$size = apply_filters( 'avf_wc_before_shop_loop_item_title_img_size', $default_size );

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi there!

    My ISP is forcing an upgrade from PHP 7.4 to 8.0 by 3 Oct :(

    I have enabled PHP 8.0 but then the news / blog page breaks and I have no clue how to fix it. The page looks perfect when logged in as admin and editing / viewing it but when logged out (as a normal visitor would view it) it breaks.

    Help will be much appreciated! Details below in private content.

    Thanks in advance,
    Pieter

    Hey neon2020,

    Thank you for the inquiry.

    The script below should apply the height of the tallest slide to every slides in the content slider. You can place it in the functions.php file.

    // custom script: set min height to slider
    function ava_custom_script_set_min_height()
    {
        ?>
        <script type="text/javascript">
            (function($) {
                $(document).ready(function() {
                    // Get an array of all element heights
                    function setSlideHeight(element)
                    {
                        var elementHeights = element.map(function() {
                            return $(this).height();
                        }).get();

                        // Math.max takes a variable number of arguments
                        // <code>apply</code> is equivalent to passing each height as an argument
                        var maxHeight = Math.max.apply(null, elementHeights);

                        // Set each height to the max height
                        element.height(maxHeight);
                    }

                    $(window).on( 'debouncedresize', function()
    				{
                        var slider = $('.avia-content-slider-inner');
                        var slides = slider.find('.slide-entry-wrap');

                        setSlideHeight(slides);
    				});
                });
            })(jQuery);
        </script>
        <?php
    }
    add_action( 'wp_footer', 'ava_custom_script_set_min_height', 9999 );

    Thank you Ismael!
    That line of code is already in magazine.php, so I moved down to line 1478 and changed ‘small’ to ‘big’ … and it worked!
    So, a big thank once again.
