    Topic: site speed needs help

Greetings. We really like your Enfolds theme. It’s providing a great new look and feel for our website http://www.scmwa.com. The only issue we’re having is that we get frequent comments from users that the site is slow. We’ve gone through and optimized our png slider images, added W3 Total Cache and followed as much guidance from Google PageInsights as possible. Can you offer any additional guidance on how we could improve the site speed?

    Many thanks!

I have recently been asked to convert a simple html site to wordpress and cannot create a simple link to a downloadable .exe file stored on the same server. The site is
http://visionitsystems.ltd.uk and the .exe file resides at: http://visionitsystems.ltd.uk/exe_files/visionit.exe

WordPress is being very clever and suggesting the page/post does not exist and directs me to the default 404 page of the theme. How do I get around this please, or am I just being stupid!@

    Many thanks in advance

    Hello:

I have been working with your Enfold theme and really like it a lot. Thank you :)

I have a few issues with the site that I’m building and I’m hoping you can help. Otherwise, please let me know if these are customizations I would need to have someone make.

    1. On my home page (I’m using a static page) I am trying to create the look of a 4column 2 row grid of images (some with links and some without) but I want to have no space between the rows or the colums. I need every square image to butt up to the next. See screen grabs. I tried using the portfolio grid feature, but that creates padding all around the images, as well as putting 1 image in each 1/4 column on the page. So, I figured out that if I built it in a text frame, importing images and sizing them to be exactly 257.7px x 257.5px so as to create 4 columns and 2 rows that would give the appearance I wanted. However, since I need a second row, and this is in the text editor feature of the advanced layout, it’s putting padding or line spacing or a break between each line. Can you tell me how to remove that white space? Code of text box is below (and screen grabs are here:

    ————

Class DescriptionsNew to YogaPrivate ClassesOur Teachers

    ————

    2. I have a link in the top navigation called “Schedule” and it the takes traffic to a different website for scheduling class times with teachers, is there a way to have that link open in a new window/tab? I don’t want to have people click that menu item and go away from the site. All of the rest of the references to the “Schedule” open in new tabs/windows – I just can’t figure it out for the top navigation, which I set it up directly in the Menu panel.

    3. On the home page, I have a Blog Slider step up inside of a color box/block. Is there a way to change the type (color, size) for the blog titles, dates and excerpts? They are little hard to read on the color that I need to use behind them. Also, is there a way to remove the dates from blog postings if desired? I know I can go in and manually change the date it was posted, but can I have it simply not show up on the blog slider, and possibly not show up in the blog itself?

    4. On the “Contact us” page I am using the google map widget, but is there a way to make the map taller? The map is using the width of the column that it’s in, which is great, but it won’t let me change the height of the map displayed for some reason?

Please let me know if you need any additional screen grabs. They site isn’t live, yet but if needed I can make it live temporarily for you to see.

    Thank you so much!

    Hi there,

actually I have the following problem: when changing to advanced editor the post looks completely different to other posts.

The post I am talking about is: http://bit.ly/1a9mRQZ
    – post image is not shown, but is shown on the blog overview page
    – the post title is displayed in the header section left of breadcrumbs and not below the post image (see above)
    – no comment functionality
    – no other interesting links shown etc.

Simply compare to other posts, e.g. when you click left: post image is not shown, too (?), but all the other things are ok.

    Thx for your help.

    Hey!

    1) In your WordPress theme directory, please go to Enfold folder and open functions-enfold.php file and search for “avia-post-nav” it should be on 356th line. Comment out all lines by adding // between including 347 and 366 http://i.imgur.com/mNyYD0F.jpg
    2) There is already such feature on the theme. You can see it on demo page http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/2013/10/21/postformat-gallery-multiple-images-with-different-sizes/

    Cheers!

    Hello,

On our single post pages, could you share a CSS snippet on how to hide the featured image on the top of the page.

For example, this red ribbon image was set as the featured image. We would still like the image to appear as the post thumbnail, but not as a big image when you are on the post page itself.

    You can view this here:
    http://mastccs.org/post/red-ribbon-week/

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I have a problem with pictures in my articles. At the beginning when I placed a picture there was a little effect on it which showed you could click on it and it would open the picture in a light box.
If you look like this article it’s working well:
    http://www.calliframe.com/comment-centrer-une-image-dans-la-sidebar/

But if you see this article and some others, it’s not working…Why?? How can I fix this?
    http://www.calliframe.com/enable-accessibility-mode-mac-osx-mavericks/

Plus I have configured the post to show the small featured image and it won’t accept it! It displays the big image instead! Is it possible to have a single post with no featured image at all in it?

    Kind regards,

    Chrys

    Any help with effect?
Also, my client said that enlarged element must be shown over the description, on the right side…

Thanks Yigit! That did the job.
Now that this is solved, I have a related question. When I tap on the image on the iPad or iPhone, I expect the title to display, as it would if I was mousing over it on a desktop or laptop. This does not happen, is this behavior intended? Could the css I just placed in the quick css box be masking a javascript css issue? Just a thought — it would be great to know. Thanks again for your support.

In reply to: Alternative to slider?

Thanks Ismael – is there a way to just ensure the section is as tall as the image whatever the height is? So it automates and shrinks as the window is made smaller?

    Topic: Masonry Image Overlay

    Hi,

I absolutely love the new masonry portfolio option! Is it possible to overlay a JPG or animated GIF over a masonry image on mouse-over / hover?
Basically: the same/similar to a single product page in woo commerce, which displays a “arrow inside a blue circle” icon as soon as the mouse hovers over the product image.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,

Is there a way to create a portfolio item with one side determined, like height, but the other free, so I can do a fixed slider with different image sizes that would fit in without being cut or stretched but still maintain clean view of the item?

    Thank you!

In reply to: slow loading on iphone

    Hey!

The codex has some references on setting up caching here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Optimization/Caching#Further_Reading

Mobile devices, particularly iphones, can be a bit touchy from what I’ve noticed. Lots of images loading it at once for instance cause cause the browser to crash to prevent the users from having a slow loading experience. So you may want to experiment a bit with the page content or at the very least re-minify your actual images so that they are the smallest size possible when its live. Something like: http://www.jpegmini.com/ or any of the online tools to get your big background images smaller. Right now you’ve got megabytes of images trying to download so that a user can just see the site which, depending on the page loading, could be an issue.

    Best regards,
    Devin

    Hi Shandhamankar!

Please add following code to Quick CSS in Enfold theme options under Styling tab

    @media only screen and (max-width: 1139px) { #av_section_1 { background-image: none; }}

    Regards,
    Yigit

I’m also interested in a non-fullwidth masonry grid.

Also interesting for the fullwidth masonry would be to enter a max width px of the images so they aren’t stretch too much. Right now, in some browser widths my images (thumbs not more than 320 px or so) are stretched to twice the size or even more. This results in a very blurry and ugly presentation, especially since on that same size there could easily be more columns.

    Hey brunostersa!

Can you post the link to portfolio page of your website so we can take a look what kind of slider you are using?

Okay I have re-updated the theme via CPANEL.

Nothing has changed – still no sortable categories and images sizes & titles are still looking weird.

    Any other ideas? http://www.realwiredmusic.com/artists/

    Hi Devin,

These are the steps I take:

        1. In the Advanced Layout Builder I go to Media tab then choose Gallery (icon with 9 squares).
        2. I click on the newly added Gallery element and click on Add/Edit Gallery to choose my pictures.
        3. After selecting the pictures I want I click Add to Gallery, then Insert Gallery. Now I will see the list of pictures I selected.
        4. Before clicking Save I first click on Add/Edit Gallery again and drag the images in the right order before clicking on Insert Gallery and finally choose Save.
        5. Now lets say I want to add or remove a picture to or from the gallery. I click the Gallery element again. In this pop-up screen I see the pictures in the correct order.
        6. Then I click on Add/Edit Gallery where I see all added pictures, BUT they are all in random order again. If now I click Insert Gallery to save it, the random order overwrites my chosen order. So I must again reorder all of my pictures.

EDIT: Seems like the ol tag doesn’t show numbers so I added the numbers manually.

Sorry Ismael, now with this css code the image is all at the same dimension, but it isn’t crop, but pulled.
In the site I have some portfolio gallery. Some are show in portrait and other in landscape mode. With this code all the thumbs are pulled at the min height that I set with css code. Is there a way to limit this css code only to a thumbs size?

I hope you understand the problem… my english is not so good :P

    Thanks

    Hi All,

I hope someone can help with this weird one.

I have an Easy Slider on my homepage (goo.gl/C76zhq). When using Safari (on a Mac) there’s a weird effect to all text below the slider. As the image is sliding, the all text below the slider ‘blurs’ until the animation is finished.

For clarification, I’m talking about the Easy Slider part way down the page, not the large slider at the top of the page. It is rotating around 2 images talking about Objectives.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
