There’s nothing in that CSS which would effect images and container width. Did you try closing the media query properly?

That is not a general problem with the version you are running, so we would have to see the actual problem in order to help you out further. I’m guessing the installation in question is local though? If so, then please upload the site to a live server so that we can access it.

Are you trying to change the colour using JavaScript? If so, then it might be easier using CSS. You can assign a class to the Text Block element containing the links, then you can use CSS like this:

.your-class a:hover {
  color: red;
}
