February 27, 2018 at 7:17 am in reply to: Latest theme update – Color Section – background video fails #918239
i don’t know css but it seems like a lot of fixes lately require this .mejs-container code…. is there something that should be added to the theme so we don’t need to keep adding this to quick css?
Please do, thanks!
(and yes, the staging site plus the nightly backup from WP Engine has saved my butt multiple times…. in my old Go Daddy days I was constantly crashing my site with updates, Yoast in particular, and now I am able to test plugin / theme updates without disrupting the production site.)
Hi Mike,
Thanks much…I think at this point I’ll go with option #3 and not update to 4.2.4 on the production site since I don’t see any tangible user experience differences from 4.2.3.
The tease about the future release has me intrigued! Will that be the 4.2.5 release or a big 5.0?
Thank for persisting here and not just closing the thread on the first post with a “plugin conflict.”
Cheers!
Rob
Hi Mike,
I added all the js files on the log for that page to the exclusions list, and even added the css files… the page still won’t load in incognito mode. There’s something in there that I saw on the changelog for this release about “Magnific Popup Lightbox” which I don’t know what that is… could that update in 4.2.4 of the Lightbox somehow be affecting this page load? Thanks for continuing to try to help here… I know this thread has grown to epic proportions.
Thanks,
RobHi Mike, that sounds good…. looking forward to those updates. I think? ha ha. Recently the updates have been causing me headaches… :)
Do you know the path I could exclude of the js for the slider? Something in the format of:
/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/static/layerslider/js/greensock.jsIdeally I would like to exclude this js for Full Screen slider vs. for the entire site. I tried the below and several other js file on that page but could not isolate the one that’s crashing:
/wp-content/uploads/dynamic_avia/avia-footer-scripts-51bd723933befe683d1d5abe554ef146.jsThanks!!!
RobHi Mike, thanks…. I appreciate your continuing to dig into this. I’m bummed that this new release means I have to eliminate more js from processing… and given that the larger picture of the next few updates seems to be to re-work js and make the theme more efficient <?> I’m wondering if at some point I’m going to need to disable minifcation etc… ?
I’m on the road today but should have some time tomorrow to work on this… please keep this thread open for now. Thanks!
Rob
On the Fullscreen Slider options, if I choose “hidden” controls instead of “default” controls, the controls don’t hide, but the video does start working. Given that there’s erratic behavior with the Fullscreen Slider, and this has been an issue on and off since last October, AND this just popped up with this week’s 4.2.4 upload, I think it’s not the minify plugin. There’s something else going on here. Can you ask the developers to take a look? Or?
Hi mike yes I identified that in the post above. But there was no conflict until this version of Enfold…. what changed ? Possible to fix ? Thanks
Hey mike that’s the home page….
Hi Mike,
On my end, the black just stays on the screen… video never shows. I’m using Chrome in incognito mode. There is no circle spinner to indicate loading….
Are you seeing something different? Can you try Chrome incognito?
Thanks much,
RobHi Mike!
Thank you for persisting on this one. I think the issue is Fast Velocity Minify Plugin, which has worked great with Enfold up until 4.2.4. Once I activate this plugin, the video just goes to black screen. Can you please take a look at the staging site again with the plugin activated?
Thanks!
Rob007 As I stated above, the css did not fix it. Please allow the mods to work this issue from here on out.
Thanks and best regards
007 Noted with thanks.
Mods, next steps please? Are you able to replicate this? Do you want credentials to log into my staging site? Actually I’ll go ahead and insert them in private content…. see below for login.
MP4… and again it worked on 4.2.3 so something the developers did broke it in 4.2.4.
007 I noticed that on your demo page it is not full screen video as there is a header… try hiding the header to see if problem replicates on 4.2.4..?
Mods, next steps please…. Thanks. Once again we have an update I can’t push to production because it breaks current video functionality. Thanks
Yours looks good… I wonder what the difference is? Is your file mp4 format? Very strange.
Which element are you using?
Hi guys,
Thanks for your help. I raced to my computer this morning (no coffee yet uh oh!!!) to check on this thread.– Video is not in a color section
– Video does play on staging site url which is 4.2.4 Enfold, so Mike I’m not sure why it’s not playing on yours? I am using Chrome if that helps.
– When I add code above (which I recognize as the code we attempted to use to fix the video bug in prior versions), the play bar goes away but the video no longer plays at all, with no option to play.4.2.4 is definitely the problem as the staging site is an exact copy of the production site… only difference is 4.2.4 on staging vs. 4.2.3 on production.
Thanks.,
RobHi Mike!
I’ve read your message six times now and I’m not sure what it means.
Do you see the difference between how the staging site displays the video and how the production site displays the exact same video?
The staging site displays a progress bar that stays until the video loads at the TOP of the screen. The production site displays that at the bottom of the screen. With very high speed connections I guess there is the possibility that it loads at the top of the screen and disappears? I am at a hotel traveling and my connection is not as fast as home. This is Full Screen Slider element with mp4 self-hosted video.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
RobYes, ALT TAGS do appear when you use the ALB editor to add photos (media elements) instead of the standard WordPress editor. You can audit your pages and check for this using one of the many SEO page checkers available online. Yoast and the ALB have a difficult relationship… often Yoast doesn’t “read” content in ALB correctly.
February 14, 2018 at 1:44 am in reply to: 4.2.2. Out and Video Bug is Improved But Still There #9120174.2.3 fixed the issues for me – thank you.
I also like that the right column of the support website now tells us when the next Enfold version is coming out, and provides an easy link to the revision history. This is a step in the right direction after what I consider a very bad 2017 for Enfold.
Thanks
Rob
Yes I agree. I try not to introduce too much custom code / patching in my child theme or css files that might break later as future updates are released. Hoping that this can be added to a future Enfold update. Having said that, the black background bars currently showing are OK with me. Even Amazon’s website handles the notch with a different color (grey bars).
Sorry to crash the thread… very informative, however.
Oh yes, now I see “the bars” which I had not really noticed before…. and now I can see nothing else…. :)
Here is a screen shot of this thread on my iPhone X. I do not see any bars in landscape or portrait mode:
You might hard reset your phone and of course make sure it’s updated to latest ios. Enfold sites also fill the screen on my X.
Thanks!
February 12, 2018 at 8:27 am in reply to: Video in fullscreen slider not displayed properly after upgrading to Enfold 4.2 #910947It was fixed in 4.2.3….
Same thing happens to me and my installation. Very strange. They used to change.
This is almost 1.5 years later and the logo isn’t updated?
I’ll leave that up to the mods… I’m sure they will tell you to check for plugin conflicts… maybe disable all plugins before the next update… but frankly until you get away from GD, you’re going to run into lots of issues. Check the GD forums and you’ll see others having the same issues. Good luck.
I guessed that because when I had Go Daddy this was happening to me constantly it seemed with updating themes and plugins. Stuck maintenance screens, HTTP errors you name it. I held my breath every time. Suggest you consider switching to a better hosting provider. Since I changed I have had zero issues and I never fear updates the way I did with GD.
Sorry to hear. Are you using Go Daddy as your web hosting provider?
Yes so far my tests are looking good too, but last time I was too fast in posting victory, ha ha, so I’m waiting. I’m also keeping a close eye on posts today to see if any bugs pop up in 4.2.3 before i push it to production. So far so good, thanks!!!
