Hi – I am posting a new message about this issue as we haven’t had a response on https://kriesi.at/support/topic/css-javascript-merging-and-compression/ for a couple of days and it is now important that we get this resolved. The main reason for selecting Enfold were the promised performance benefits which we are not seeing as the files are not being merged.
Searching your forum also finds other users with the same issue:

Can you please respond with some idea of how we start to debug this issue. My original request below.

CSS & Javascript Merging and Compression
I have switched on this option in Enfold theme options but it is not merging or compressing files. There are about 20 shortcode CSS files?

    #988578

    Hey kesdeg,

    Thank you for using Enfold.

The asset merge fails because it’s looking for a font file that doesn’t exist.

Warning: file_get_contents(/home/whizzki2/staging/1/https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Poppins): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/whizzki2/staging/1/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-template-builder/php/asset-manager.class.php on line 326

I tried to disable the “strappress_add_google_fonts” hook in functions.php file but I get an error in the Appearance > Editor panel. Please disable that hook temporarily then try to toggle the css/s compression in the Performance panel again.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

Hi, that doesn’t fix it unfortunately. I had already tried to de-bug by switching back to the parent theme and the files are not compressed on there either so I discounted it being an issue with the child theme.

Please can you look at this again – I have totally removed the child functions.php so we can discount it being an issue with something in there.

    Many thanks

    Hi,

It is failing to generate the merged files but I’m not sure why. Can we get access to the wp-content > uploads folder? We would like to check if the “dynamic_avia” folder exist or if it is accessible.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    #989229

The folder is there and the merged files are there. I have a screen print but there is no where to upload it.

Why do you think it is not generating the files? Please can we have a quick response we seem to wait 24 hours between every response.

    #989510

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update.

You can post a screenshot using imgur or dropbox. Please remove that folder and then toggle the theme options to regenerate the script and stylesheets. Check if the “dynamic_avia” folder is regenerated again.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

https://imgur.com/a/KawlfKM – this is the screen shot from yesterday.
https://imgur.com/a/CE5WlPs – this is the screen shot from today – no merged files created

Let me know if you need further info.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info.

I’m currently on another thread with exact same issue as this one. Please delete the “dynamic_avia” folder and then look for the “aviaAsset_avia-merged-styles” and “aviaAsset_avia-head-scripts” entries in your database. It’s in the “_options” table. Delete those entries and then toggle the theme options again to regenerate the merged scripts and stylesheets. Let us know if it helps.

Temporarily, you can install the Autoptimize or the BWP Minify plugin to compress the scripts and stylesheets while we debug the issue.

    Ismael

    Hi,

Those field entries do not exist in the options table for staging1.whizzkids-toys. However I checked in a site I created to troubleshoot this and they do exist for https://cache-test.whizzkids-toys.co.uk/ where the merged files are working correctly. Also toggling on and off the settings doesn’t create the merged file in the dynamic_avia folder anymore.

    Hope this is helpful info.

    Hi,

Can we get access to the database? I think those entries are in the database but their hash don’t match the actual files. Please try to search for it again in the database. Use the database’s Search panel.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update.

I found and deleted both entries in the database (see private field). They contain the error message as expected. I tried to compress the files again and the scripts are being merged properly but not the stylesheets. It still generates the error message instead of combining the stylesheets. I’m not sure why.

Please use the Autoptimize or the BWP Minify plugin temporarily.

    Hi Ismael,

Thanks for the investigations. I’m not keen to use either of those plug-ins as have had dramas in the past with messing up the website. Can you please look into solving this issue as a priority.

    Many thanks,
    Kesdeg

    Hi,

I’m not really sure if I can fix this immediately because it seems to be related to the server. As you’ve said yourself, the compression works properly on another site.
I installed the Autoptimize plugin and now the files are compressed. I’m not seeing any issues with the site so far. (see private field)

    Ismael

    Dear Ismael,

Installed Autooptimise on the live site and seemed to work with no issues but a few days ago, the single product pages were not showing completely on any browser. The images and product descriptions not appearing. Trouble shooting identified deactivating Autoptimise solved the problem so I can no longer use this short term solution.

Can you advise if you have found any longer term solution to this problem please.

    Thanks,

    Kesdeg

    1. Install and activate ” Temporary Login Without Password “.
    2. Go to ” Users > Temporary Logins ” on the left-side menu.
    3. Click ” Create New “.
    4. Add the email address for the account ( you can use (Email address hidden if logged out) ), as well as the ” Role ” making that the highest possible and the expiry about four days
( do be sure that we have enough time to debug ).
    5. Click ” Submit “.

Sorry for the delay but we’ve been on holiday.

    Hi,

For testing purpose, I activated the main theme and the compression works properly. Please see screenshot attached.

Only with the child theme, the issue persists. Please remove the additional code in the functions.php file and add only one block of code at a time and refresh the page to check which code is causing this issue.

    Best regards,
    Vinay

    #1009431

    Dear Vinay,
We’ve removed all the child theme customisations on staging2.whizzkids-toys.co.uk but it still doesn’t compress, so it isn’t any changes we have made. The files do get compressed if you swop to the parent theme so it is something to do with the child theme.
We’re really keen to get this one resolved, look forward to your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    kesdeg

    Hi,

Can we have access to the site again? The login token has expired. What happens to the product pages when Autoptimize plugin is enabled? Please give us a link to one of the product pages so that we could check it after compressing the stylesheets.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

I’ve reactivated access again, details in the Private Content.

When Autoptimise is activated, on any single product page, I see no product image or product descrptions.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. The compression works when the SG Optimiser plugin is disabled. Please try to use another cache plugin. (see private field)
