I seem to have had an influx of Russian Junk emails come through the contact form on the Focus Contact form page since 5th Feb (around 250)

There is already captcha running on the form. I have heard that it’s a common problem at the moment, eeing an increased number of spam from our contact page which suggests the hackers have found a work around for googles captcha system.

Is there anything you can suggest to stop the junk or a a stronger form plug-in to prevent this that works with Enfold?

    Thanks

    Hey woogie07,

Could you post a link to where we can see the form in question please?

    Best regards,

    Hi,

Thanks for that. I see that you are running an old version of the theme, could you try to update to the latest version (4.7.6.4) to see if that helps please? The update to 4.7.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541

You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.

Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/

Once you have installed the new version, then please make sure that you have added and activated Google Recaptcha in the theme options: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/contact-form/#activate-google-captcha

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the update. Yes, there has been changes, so updating to the latest version will likely solve your problem.

About the update; you can upload the new version to a separate folder using FTP, then activate it in WordPress once it’s uploaded. If something should break, then you can simply activate the old version back again. You could also copy the site to a staging site, and update there first.

If you need help with uploading the new version, then please share FTP login details in private as well. Also make sure that you have backups of the site.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi

I am hoping to upload the latest version of the site in a staging environment.

Could you advise what improvements on form security have been made. What files within the enfold WP theme effect the form update?

    Thanks
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the update. Checking exactly which files have been changed between the current and the version you are running would be very time consuming unfortunately. I can say that there has been a lot of improvements though.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
