  • Hi Havi,

    I’m simply giving you an example of the syntax that works. Each of these URL parameters was causing Soft 404 errors and these commands stopped it. You also need to make sure your robot.txt is accessible. You can test it in Google Webmaster (Console) for your preferred domain. My preferred domain format is https://mydomain.com (ssl with no www).

    I’m not sure the “redirect_to” is what you think it is. It’s a URL parameter not a directive. It has nothing to do with 301 or any other 3xx directive. I have a dozen redirects setup and none of those show up in the Soft 404 errors shown in Google Webmaster. “redirect_to” examples URLs I’m seeing in Google Webmaster seem to have something to do with the wp-login.php and certainly should not be crawled.

    This definitely works… Is Google Webmaster (Console) setup to “Let Googlebot decide” for “s”?
    Disallow: /*?s=

    Example URLs that show up for “redirect_to”
    wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fmydomain.com%2Fmycompany-backs-a-winning-team%2Fimage-2v2%2F

    WordFence this a commonly used security plugin and is not part of Enfold.

    Disallow: /*?wordfence_logHuman=
    Disallow: /*?s=
    Disallow: /*?redirect_to=

    Thank you @Coreyfocusgroup. I never used the wordfence plugin. Does Enfold use it?

    I’m going to keep the crawling of redirects. GoogleBot only crawls 302s and 307s every time. 301s are only crawled once.

    Also, I have already implemented Disallow: /*?s= to no avail. The reality is that you need to allow GoogleBot to crawl and add a no index directive to the “page” but as there’s no page, it’s hard to do. This happens because the bot does not enter any data to search for. So if the code would state that if the Search field is empty, to noindex, nofollow, it would be a cleaner fix.

    I will test it on a smaller site. Meanwhile I disabled the tooltip on the large site, deleted all of the soft 404s (to save crawling budget) and will see if they re-appear.

    I may modify the code like @fromcouch indicated changing the ?s= for # on the small site and test if it works.

    I’ll share my findings in about 2 weeks.

    I do hope one of these solutions take care of it. :)

    Thanks again!!

    Warmly,

    Havi

    Hi Havi,

    The solution is to add these lines into your Robot text. I have not had any Soft 404 errors in 3 months.

    Disallow: /*?wordfence_logHuman=
    Disallow: /*?s=
    Disallow: /*?redirect_to=

    Hi,

    Can you post a link to your website and/or the page that is causing the alert?

    It does sound like there could be some form of infection on site. This can happen if your server / hosting company aren’t doing their bit keeping security tight or due to an infected / old plugin / theme that has an exploit. Only using premium themes and up to date plugins is essential for security.
    Google can be wrong sometimes and throw out incorrect alerts but that rare. Is the alert showing in Webmaster Tools?

    I’d highly recommend installing WordFence and running a full scan. If you aren’t sure leave all setting on standard and it’ll be fine.

    Hope that helps

    TJ

    Hi,

    Are you running any security plugins like WordFence or Sucuri?
    If not I would install them and see what they find.
    I’ve used Enfold for years and never had an issue regarding the theme and any security holes, these guys are good.
    As wp-content is a standard WordPress folder at theme specific. it is more likely to be an infection from a plugin or a “hack” than a theme related issue .
    Can you check your ftp and see if any suspect plugins / files are there?
    If you aren’t using a pay-pal plugin then delete those files from uploads and run some checks.

    Hope that helps

    Hi Victoria,
    Thanks for your reply, yes of course I use WordFence to limit login attempts, which is what alerted me that bots were actively targeting the user name. My point was more for your developers, regarding the way the theme is coded: why show the user names in meta data in the html if the option to display it has been disabled.

    Have a look at the link I am attaching in private content, this is using another theme: GeneratePress by Tom Usborne, here if the option is chosen not to display author name then the html code for that meta element is simply not generated, hence no trace of user name is shown.

    Just a thought

    ENFOLD Update installed. Error persists.

    Any solution to this? Having a hard time making my client understand the Wordfence error :(

    #823968

    Hi Hugues,

    On most blogs you see author names and links to their accounts. The other thing is that there has to be plugin or custom functionality the would block all the bruttforce attacks, block ips or any other way. Are you using Wordfence or the like?
    Plus you can use a plugin to enforce strong passwords.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,
    If I understand, you only get the above error when the Wordfence Security plugin is enabled making the LayerSlider Plugin not work, and when disabled the LayerSlider Plugin works fine?
    If so this seems to be an issue with Wordfence Security braking LayerSlider, perhaps Wordfence Security support has a fix for this, have you looked in their support forum?

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hey, Victoria!

    No, I did not get it working for me!
    I had the same problem error message when the Wordfence Security plugin is enabled, so I’ve kept it disabled.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hey, John!

    I had disabled all the plugins and check if there`s some problem. The issue is with the Wordfence Security plugin. Which I have disabled.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

    Please try deactivating the WordFence plugin first. If that doesn’t work try to deactivate the others to see if one may not be causing a scripting conflict.

    Best regards,
    Jordan Shannon

    #813485

    Thanks John, but why would you leave them all inactive?! Just tell me it’s a plugin conflict and I can activate and deactivate, but the site’s been running without Wordfence and other important plugins since who knows how long.

    Wordpress: 4.8
    Woocommerce: 3.0.9
    Enfold theme: 4.0.7

    I can set up new attributes just fine, but when i go to apply them to a product, or make any changes on the attributes or variations tab, the pointer just sits there and spins, hanging the back end till i go to another tab.

    Enfold is the only theme i use that seems to have this issue. I’ve tried disabling wordfence and updraft plus to no avail..

    Would you mind taking a look?

    Thank you

    Good evening,

    I am having problems with the standard contact form from Enfold.
    My costumers can fill in the forms, but when they click on “send” nothing happends. On your website I found this:

    3. Deactivate Plugins
    If you see the contact form “Send” button is not responding then it could be that a plugin is causing a JavaScript conflict on the page. Deactivate all plugins and try again.
    https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-contact-form-not-sending-emails

    But I do need all my plugins. On my other website the contactform still works. The only difference is that I haven’t updated the Wordfence Security, the WP Fastest Cache and the WP Smush Pro yet on the website that is still working. Perhaps the problem is in one of these plugins?
    But will this happen every time I update this plugin? Because than I better use a different form without this problem.

    Please advise me what to do!

    Best regards,
    Iris

    Hi mu_ri and Photoviews7,

    I would say that it’s not an actual security risk, WordFence only seems to detect that LayerSlider is not the latest version and listing that as a security risk. LayerSlider has been putting out a lot of updates lately and it’s difficult for us to keep up with them all.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    June 23, 2017 I got the same warning from Wordfence Security – also. Still waiting for this update which was released June 11th by Layerslider.

    Today I received another warning from Wordfence.
    Not the standard update warning but a “critical” one:

    Critical Problems:
    * The Plugin “” needs an upgrade ( -> 6.5.1).
    Update includes security-related fixes.

    Is this the same false positive or is it a real security issue?

    Thank you

    Hi all,

    I am getting an error message everytime I try to save something using the enfold theme. The error message I get is the following:

    Saving didnt work!
    The script returned the following error:

    Successfully whitelisted 1 params.

    Not sure but I think this has something to do with the WordFence Plugin. But I don’t get this error message with other themes. Also the advanced layout manager is not fully loading. I see the elements but the editor itself keeps spinning and loading. Deactivating the plugin also didn’t work, neither did deleting it. Also I tried to deactivate all plugins and activate them again but didn’t help. Can you guys please help me?

    Regards,
    Andrew

    I changed my host and now the icons are missing on my website.

    My .htaccess looks like this

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f

    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    </IfModule>
    <IfModule !mod_authz_core.c>

    	Deny from all
    </IfModule>
    </Files>

    # END Wordfence WAF

    WordFence is noting to update immediately since it “includes security-related fixes”: http://codecanyon.net/item/layerslider-wp-the-wordpress-parallax-slider/1362246/#developers

    @Rikard,
    I’m now experiencing the same problem, on the same website, with the increased memory limits as posted earlier.
    Again, this is happening with just 1 page (a different one to last time). The higher resource limits fixed the page I initially had issues with, but now, a different page has the same problem of the Avia layout builder not loading.

    I’ve dug deeper into the problem, and every creative solution I’ve tried hasn’t restored access to the Avia layout building inside the page in question.

    Chrome console tells me:
    VM8950:1 POST http://www.####.com.au/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php 403 (Forbidden)

    I’ve noticed that if I visit this page too much, my hosting firewall automatically blocks my IP, which I then have to go and manually Unblock from the hosting portal (I’m a reseller so I have this kind of access)

    Furthermore, I’ve seen a couple of posts online that say that WordFence can sometimes block a connection to this file (wp-admin/admin-ajax.php) as a false positive, but I have disabled WordFence and the problem still persists.

    I also tried disabling a plugin called “Cache External Scripts” thinking it might be the culprit, still no luck.

    I then tried disabling my caching plugin, even though the POST request from admin-ajax.php is set to no-cache, I thought it might be causing issues. Still, nothing, didn’t make a difference.

    Finally, I disabled ALL plugins on the site, and the problem is still happening.

    I can confirm that the server is indeed using the higher resource limits set in default-constants.php and in .htaccess as well.

    My permission structure is as follows;
    public_html (web root) – 0750
    \ wp-admin – 0755
    \ wp-admin \ admin-ajax.php – 0644

    Also note, even though I have disabled all plugins, some settings still remain (.htacess etc) I have whitelisted my IP address and also made sure that my IP isn’t being blocked by the host server.

    I’m really lost as to what the solution might be.

    I’ve noticed as well, this has happened a couple of times when adding a “Fullwidth button” in the Avia layout builder, as well as “Icon” elements. After saving, the page will then reload as normal, but the Avia editor doesn’t fully load. Animated icon for the Avia editor spins infinitely.

    I can also see that the POST method is sending the raw Avia shortcode to admin-ajax.php but is being blocked for some reason…

    The weirdest part is… When I “restore” a revision from before I’ve added or changed whatever it was to make the layout editor break (with the blocked admin-ajax.php), it works! But in some cases, this can mean losing hours of work, plus the hours spent trying to diagnose the problem.

    Basically I have to then avoid making the same changes (such as adding an icon with a link) to something like, adding an image with the same link, in order to not repeat the same steps and potentially break the page again. Incredibly frustrating and thankfully I have full control over the design of my client’s websites but this issue has only come up in the last couple of versions of Enfold. Everything prior to v4 never did this.

    Some insight would be nice, or maybe this a deeper bug that has come up in the last couple of versions? I’m not a PHP or Ajax developer so I can’t fully debug the problem.

    For anyone else with this issue, try restoring your page to earlier Revision and see if that helps, even though you’ll probably lose a lot of work, it has been the only consistant solution for me with this particular issue, apart from higher server resource limits, which you should always do anyway :P

    Cheers, Jenkins

    Yes. And on another site (jbcwatertreatment.com), the layout builder loads, but the text editor isn’t working unless I turn off Yoast.

    The Silvey Angus site has only required plugins. Woo, WordFence, Yoast, etc, and the JBC site has the exact same plugins, plus a few more. The plugins on the Silvey site are all required, must-haves.

    In reply to: Textblock Issue

    Figured out the problem. I knew there wasn’t an issue with permissions since there is another website using the Enfold theme on the same server. The website in the parent directory has Wordfence installed which was blocking access to admin-ajax.php in the subdomain’s directory. All I needed to do was whitelist my IP and everything works fine.

    Hi,

    I have checked the page and I just changed the Title Bar Settings, update and return it back to how it was before and cleared the cache which seems to have fixed the issue, I think it can be resolved if you flush out the cache from w3total cache. I have cleared the cache, can you confirm if it’s also fixed on your end?

    As for the wordfence issue, I think the lack of memory allocated which you have posted is the problem, and the only way to fix that is allocate more memory, I think hosts are able to upgrade that but you need to pay them $$$ :)

    Best regards,
    Nikko
