Good idea…. unfortunately when I try that, the “quick search” box keeps fading out and in with the slides so you can’t really use it. More in private content…..
And Yigit, you are truly a legend!!! :)
Great to hear that improved mobile experience is coming… as you know, we keep asking for it.
I, too, was disappointed there isn’t more included in 4.0. I would like to hear a bit more about the performance improvements. Will this lead to better page speed rendering etc?
Hoping we see 4.1 and beyond soon! This update was a long time coming… :)
Best
In case this helps…I updated to 4.0.1 on my staging site and it seems to be running fine… (maybe a little faster?)
I did not update to 4.0 prior.
Also try deleting all your cookies and clearing your browser cache.
That is a very good idea… I will try that and let you know how it goes!
Thanks for your response as always, Yigit!
I was afraid that was going to be the case, that launching a video in lightbox in desktop is an enhancement even though in mobile that’s already the behavior. I think this is something between a bug and an enhancement but I won’t debate…. :)
The issue I run into and the reason I’m using Lightbox for the video is that if I just use the video element, it’s HUGE on the page…. and if I put it inside a layout element (1/5 + 3/5 + 1/5) then it looks too small (Goldilocks…)
Is there a different way to get at the goal, which is to have a nice centered video that is larger than the 3/5 above but smaller than the full screen that the video element produces?
Thanks!!!!!!!!
Here’s where I am now… but it took me all morning for something that should be really simple….
http://www.thomashenthorne.com/marin-luxury-homes-sizzle-reel/
I ended up pulling the thumbnail from Youtube, then going into Photoshop and creating an image with the red “play” button graphic, then merging those two, then saving as an image, then linking the image on the page to the Youtube video but with the special format Yigit suggested in different thread to different user, then I had to create “only_desktop” css class because on mobile this version doesn’t work (have to hit two clicks) whereas the normal insert video element works great on mobile (e.g. launches Lightbox).
The video element on desktop should also by default launch a lightbox… this is a lot to go through just to have a Youtube video launch in lightbox, yes?
Help…..
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
RobGreat, Yigit, works great…. now don’t forget this open thread… :) :) :) ha ha
( I know it is getting late Europe time….)
PS Based on another thread I saw from Yigit, I made sure the url is full length and still lightbox only opens in mobile, not in desktop:
Thanks!!!!
Thanks — I didn’t expect any customization — I just assumed the “one color section slide up over another color section” was possible and I had just missed out on how to do it. It’s an effect I’m seeing more and more on websites.
Thanks anyway and appreciate your getting back to me! :)
February 17, 2017 at 6:00 pm in reply to: Insert Youtube video pointing to HTTP instead of HTTPS? #748565Hey Ismael, no worries I know you guys are busy. The problem seems to have resolved itself, strangely…. ok to close this ticket.
Thanks!
RobI was experiencing a strange issue with the visual editor and thought it was my hosting provider. I was using Chrome browser and the problem was on ALL of my computers and laptops logged into the same Chrome account. The temporary solution was to log in via “incognito mode” in Chrome, and then everything worked great. The real solution though was to delete all browsing history (until the beginning of time as the prompt says) and then to DELETE COOKIES which I never had done.
Deleting the cookies solved the issue….. you might also want to try that, and try logging in with a different browser (Firefox etc) to see if you are running into an issue similar to mine.
Hope this helps.
I switched from Go Daddy due to the nonstop 502 and 503 errors… they started last November and if you read their support forums for Managed WordPress, they have continued since then. I was pulling my hair out. This is not a theme issue. I switched to WP Engine and am happy with them but there are many hosting providers that are much better than Go Daddy. Make the switch away from GD, you won’t regret it. I wish someone had given me this advice 2 years ago! Good luck.
Thank you! I went to the site and added a test page and the caption didn’t move… then realized I still needed to add the code above to the quick css? So I did that and the caption is precisely where I want it to be. Thank you so much!! Just wanted to confirm that code
.av-image-caption-overlay-center {
vertical-align: bottom;
}wasn’t already added somewhere else?
Thanks again for your help!!!
Thanks…. admin credentials attached. Can you (a) check to see if the unclosed comment is somewhere on the production side, or did I make the mistake as I was trying to add the center caption code on the staging side? and then (b) add your new wonderful code that works great to the production side.
Thanks!
Rob
Hi Yigit, thank you for your response and no problem, I know you guys are busy. If my site ever throws a front-end error I know you would be all over it right away.
The change / fix looks great! An un-closed comment, how stupid of me, thank you for finding that.
One issue remains now — I cannot push staging to production because the staging version of the site is very old now, and production has new content that would be overwritten. I looked and looked (only one cup of coffee so far) and cannot find the un-closed comment in the production side of the site in style.css…can you tell me exactly where you found it or what it was so I can go in and fix it on the production side, then add your code to quick css?
Thanks!!!!
RobFebruary 13, 2017 at 9:21 am in reply to: Insert Youtube video pointing to HTTP instead of HTTPS? #746245Hi Ismael!
Thanks for looking into this!
Yes, I just double checked and the urls entered on the page in Avia, both in the color section video background (for desktop) and in the Youtube box (for mobile) are both entered as the https versions…. that’s why I was theorizing that maybe there’s something hardcoded in the theme somewhere that is assuming Youtube urls are all http?
Thanks for your help in figuring this out!
Rob
Hi Yigit, do you think you will have time to look at this before the weekend?
Thanks!
Hi Yigit, thanks for your help! Perhaps another custom css is conflicting?
Just want the captions to be under the photos…. centered….. like it conventional WordPress themes (2010, 2011, etc…)… Hope that makes sense otherwise I can try to figure out how to do a mockup.
Thanks!!!
Hi Yigit!
Thanks so much for getting to this.
I added that to quick CSS and don’t see a change on the staging site (url above)… was I supposed to add it to a php file instead or ?
Thanks!!!
RobHoping you can look at this Monday Europe time as I have to update the staging site Monday pm California time.
Thanks…!
February 4, 2017 at 11:36 pm in reply to: SEO, Google Page insights, blocking rendering ressources "above the fold" #742888This is an amazing thread and I really appreciate the time you took, Ahogerhuis, on putting this guide together!
One question… on this step:
Above the fold Optimization (Pagespeed)
Critical CSS:
Critical Path CSS: <get the full CSS, and put it into an online CSS-optimizer and paste it here>When you say “get the full CSS, and put it into an online CSS-optimizer….” how do we get the full CSS to add to this box? I know, stupid question, but my css skills are fairly minimal.
Thanks!!
Sure! Link to staging site test page with examples is in private content. Thanks for your help!!!
Same thing happened to me… try ‘incognito mode’ or “private browsing” mode to login with the original admin and / or clear the cache. That fixed it for me.
Strange we are having to create new admin accounts to get visual mode to work. I wonder if this is a Yoast conflict or ?
This happened to me this week and I found a thread on here that suggested adding a user with admin rights, logging in as that new user, and pulling up a page.
Boom, it worked for the new user and for my usual admin account!
Good luck, hope that helps.
This thread was a huge help to me in figuring out how to fix the duplicate titles issue in Enfold. The child theme template has this line which must be deleted in header.php:
<!– page title, displayed in your browser bar –>
<title><?php if(function_exists(‘avia_set_title_tag’)) { echo avia_set_title_tag(); } ?></title>Guys you might want to update your records / child theme template etc accordingly. Is there any reason for the above code to exist in header.php? My site seems fine without it and the duplicate titles are gone.
Thanks!!!
Hey Kriesi!!
Thank you so much for your post. Great to hear that you are still hard at work on “our” theme that we love so much, and that more is coming. Excited about the improved header and hoping two logos are coming our way (right now my site is customized for two logos and the header can be a bit slow as it loads the custom code.).
Not to turn this into a “what we want” thread, and if it goes there, I’m sure mods will close, but as you know the two things Google is demanding from us is (1) speed and (2) mobile friendliness. Anything you can do on those two would be much appreciated. As an example, Yigit’s code to add search to the mobile menu was great and works well, but I would think that would be a part of the standard theme at this point. 85% of the visitors to my site here in the SF Bay Area are on mobile.
Thank you again, and wishing you a safe, peaceful 2017. Looking forward to what’s coming!
Best,
RobJanuary 30, 2017 at 6:01 am in reply to: Easy Slider – Possible to Default to "Link to Lightbox"? #740068OK… I will keep clicking away…. thanks anyway!
Great. We just updated and the site seems to be working fine. We are holding off on WordPress 4.7 until January. Happy holidays!
