We are afraid that is how WordPress work. If you switch back, it strips out any HTML added.
You can try expand the links with some Jquery, but that would require to hire a developer to help you with the process.

That is not the actually case.
Google suggets that for secure reasons, to be sure that results come and go, but if you test it and it is working fine
then you are OK.

There is not a selected functionality for the themes to do it automatically that, we are afraid.
