GuestHi,
a client of mine is using Enfold v. 4.1.2. Their provider is going to switch off PHP 7.4 soon. I tested the website with PHP 8.0 and 8.1; with both there are fatal errors and the screen remains blank. (I did *not* turn off the plugins – all pretty much up to date-, only switched to a standard theme, which works.)So now I’d like to know
1. does the current version of Enfold work with PHP 8.1?
2. can we count on an upgrade being a 1:1 replacement, or is it going to break existing content? Thanks!
Kind regards,
Stefan BarthAugust 17, 2022 at 7:24 pm #1361996Hey Stefan,
The version you are running is not compatible with either newer versions of WordPress, or PHP versions. Please update to the latest version (5.1.1) first of all. The update to 5.1.1 has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/Best regards,

GuestHi Rikard,
thanks for the prompt reply!
Could you please look at my questions again?
1. does the current version of Enfold work with PHP 8.1?
2. can we count on an upgrade being a 1:1 replacement, or is it going to break existing content?
Maybe that wasn’t very clear: will the site look as before after the update, or do we have to check each page and correct what’s been done inside the Avia pagebuilder? Thanks!
Kind regards,
StefanAugust 18, 2022 at 4:55 pm #1362082Hi,
1. Yes, we’ve tested the theme using PHP 8.1.
2. The version you are currently running is very old, we can’t say for sure if something will break or not. I would recommend that you update on a staging site first.Best regards,

GuestHi,
for me, it would be fine to close the topic. If my client decides to upgrade, I could report back whether we encountered any problems. Might be helpful for others …

GuestHi,
sorry for taking so long; I had Corona in the meantime and got totally behind with my work.
So, I installed the new version of Enfold, and it worked right away without any problems. One really minor issue was comments being turned on again on pages. That was easily fixed. The site now runs well on PHP 8.1.Thanks for the support!
