Support,
Just today we received the message “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.” when we were just changing the email address in a text element on the “LIVE” site (https://wjcousinsandassociates.com/), which did not happen a week ago. It does not happen on the “STAGING” site (https://y8s.5a5.myftpupload.com/). It only happens on the “Contact Us” page: https://wjcousinsandassociates.com/contact/
[ FYI: It is being hosted on GoDaddy, and the only thing different between the two sites is that the Live site has a Sucuri Firewall and CDN, and I am assuming that the Staging site does not have it — WP 5.6.1; PHP 7.3; Enfold 4.7.6.3 ].
I found a solution to this in a past thread that said to switch to the Classic Editor in the theme options. That did work, but I’m just wondering why this might be happening, and if I am ‘losing’ any editing capabilities.
We are the website developers and are designing this site for a client. I just don’t want to ‘turn over’ a website to them that is not the ‘best’ it can be and/or will have some ‘incompatibilities’ or ‘restrictions’ in the future.
Thanks for your help,
Mark Besh
Visual Impact SystemsFebruary 18, 2021 at 5:43 am #1281940Hi Mark,
First off, could you try updating the theme to the latest version (4.7.6.4) to see if that helps please? https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update. If not, then please post admin WordPress login details in private to the live site, so that we can have a closer look. Also, would it be ok if we temporarily disable plugins?
Best regards,

Well, yes I can update to the newest version. I just want to be sure about one thing:
Y’all help me get rid of the “portfolio-item” in the URL and have me put the following code into the functions.php file (which I can definitely add to the new version’s functions.php file) [ https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-remove-portfolio-item-from-the-url/#post-1275954 ].
The question is, y’all logged in and did this for me: Made the “Portfolio Items Base” for the Permalink settings to be “/” (which you said was also needed to get rid of the “portfolio-item” in the URL). Will this setting go back to the default “portfolio-item” when I delete the current Enfold folder and replace it with the new version’s folder (with the updated functions.php file)?

Enable jQuery Migrate Helper (Not Activated)
Enable Media Replace
Gravity Forms (Not Activated)

Visual Impact SystemsFebruary 22, 2021 at 12:16 pm #1282765Hi,
Thank you for the update.
Will this setting go back to the default “portfolio-item”
The option should be retained, but make sure to add the previous snippet again in the functions.php file to omit the post type path from the URL. We recommend using a child theme so that you do not have to redo the changes every update.

IsmaelMarch 12, 2021 at 12:48 am #1287558I am receiving the “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.” error on my homepage. I recently switched servers and went to make updates on the website. I was able to add content and change menu structures on other pages, but seem to only have this issue with my homepage specifically. Any solution?

Please try switching to the classic editor in the theme options and see if that helps to solve the issue.
