An error occurred while updating Enfold: Download failed. A valid URL was not provided. What is going on? it has always worked before.
Thank youOctober 22, 2018 at 4:16 pm #1024942Hi Kriesi-Team.

Did you get further feedback according to this problem? Thanks for your help and greetings

October 23, 2018 at 5:12 am #1025234Hi,
The update to 4.5 has to be done manually unfortunately. Please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541. You can also update via FTP if you prefer that: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update.
Best regards,
RikardOctober 24, 2018 at 4:28 pm #1025971This is all sooooo confusing. Why can’t this be explained simply.
Can I just do this all by FTP???
rename the Enfold Folder to old,
Create a new Enfold folder
Then ftp the new downloaded files to the server???Will it then be ok for the next update?
Thank youOctober 24, 2018 at 8:07 pm #1026086Hi elames,
Yes, our devs are working hard to get the update process back to normal.
Here is a thread for you to consider
If you need further assistance please let us know.
Best regards,
VictoriaOctober 24, 2018 at 10:34 pm #1026141I am trying it with the suggested plugin to update the theme. Will let you know if it works. Such a shame all of this could have been avoided in the first place.
The PLUGIN did not work. I am just going to wait for you all to fix it.

October 25, 2018 at 2:57 am #1026178Hi,
I see that you asked the question if the update to v4.5 can be done manually, by renaming the enfold folder to “enfold-old” and then upload the new enfold folder via ftp.
The answer is yes, you can update the theme via ftp, just as long as you create a new folder and don’t try to overwrite the theme.
Then going forward, you should be able to update the theme as normal.Best regards,

Why don’t mods create sticky about the update to 4.5 since there are so many threads on this? Title could be “Instructions on How to Update to Version 4.5”
Cheers
RobOctober 26, 2018 at 8:27 am #1026653I’m on version 4.2.6
If I DO NOT do the manual update to v4.5, and wait for the next version that supports auto-updating, will it work to auto-update from 4.2.6 to the newest version?
October 26, 2018 at 12:46 pm #1026770Hi,
@elames thank you for the login, I took a look and found that your “PHP Max Upload Size” is 16mb which is too small, Enfold is 16.7mb, please ask you webhost to change it to 20mb, if you include your FTP access I will update it for you, if you wish.
@johpg You will need to update manually, because your theme will not connect to Theme Forest correctly for the new token system, v4.5 will auto update next time.
If you open a new thread and include your FTP access I will update it for you, if you wish. Or you can this:Here are the steps to update with the plugin
*Please ensure your “PHP Max Upload Size” is at least 20mb, because Enfold is 16.7mb.
1: please install the plugin: Update Theme and Plugins from Zip File
2: then go to WordPress > Themes > Add New > Upload
3: after the install, click “Return to Themes page” (NOT Activate)
4: success:
Please note that if you update via FTP, you will need to remove the old theme folder “enfold” first (via FTP) then upload the new “enfold” folder at /wp-content/themes/enfold/
Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors.Best regards,
MikeOctober 26, 2018 at 2:14 pm #1026794@mike:
Thanks for the update instructions.
I have successfully updated to v4.5 via FTPFor anyone reading this thread:
Once you have updated to v4.5, you need to go to Enfold – Theme Update, and generate a Envato private token.
There is a link to instructions for how to do this on the Theme Update page.
Then you enter the token in the field on the Theme Update page and validate it.
You MUST do this to be able to update the theme in future.MODERATORS:
There should be a sticky post created covering BOTH updating to v4.5 AND generating and installing the token after the update.October 26, 2018 at 3:51 pm #1026859@johpg
@goldengate415
yes your are totally right about the creation by kriesi team of an official sticky post with the COMPLETE ( including check PHP max upload, API token etc… ) step by step instructions to update from 4.4.1 to 4.5.After 10 days there is now a lot of confusion on the forum and i can not find a totally risk free method to upgrade my several live enfold site:
finally i still see that that many users have big problems of site corruption after updating using FTP method or plugin method.October 27, 2018 at 1:27 am #1026969Hopefully I won’t confuse the update issue further, but by far the easiest and quickest way to update to v4.5 is if you have CPanel access to your site:
1. Download the “Installable WordPress file only” from your Themeforest account
2. Login to your website’s CPanel – normally found at yourwebsite.com/cpanel
3. Open File Manager and navigate to the \wp-content\themes\ directory of your website
4. Rename the Enfold folder to Enfold-old
5. Upload the ZIP file you downloaded in step 1 to \wp-content\themes\
6. Extract the ZIP file you uploaded in step 5 to \wp-content\themes\
7. Delete the ZIP file you uploaded in step 5
When you check your website’s WordPress admin you will be updated to v4.5.
The previous version of Enfold will still be there – you can delete this if you are happy that the update has worked okay.October 28, 2018 at 11:07 pm #1027353Sorry, that is EXACTLY what I did and I ended up with nothing but a WHITE SCREEN.
October 29, 2018 at 1:06 pm #1027501Hi,
@elames Please include FTP access in the Private Content area so we can try to update your theme and resolve this for you.
Since you have already tried and got a white screen, do we assume that you have a full backup?Best regards,

November 1, 2018 at 1:47 pm #1028848Hi,
In the screenshot above that says your theme is v4.1, please notice the name of the theme “Enfold-old”
this was the backup of your old theme, I login in to look but it no longer says this so I assume that you have realize this and corrected.
Unless there is anything else we can assist with on this issue, shall we close this then?Best regards,
MikeNovember 1, 2018 at 2:50 pm #1028864We’re good. thanks for all your help
November 1, 2018 at 3:40 pm #1028873I’ve tried to update with the plugin. Unpacked the themeforest-4519990-enfold-responsive-multipurpose-theme.zip and used the enfold.zip but I’m getting a screen with the message: The link you’ve followed has expired :(
