We are using this theme and got a notification to update the theme. But we are having trouble updating the theme it shows some error can someone please help us out to solve this problem. It says “An error occurred while updating Enfold: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.”
April 8, 2021 at 5:42 pm #1293359Hey comprompt,
Please follow the steps below:
Make a backup:
– Site Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-wordpress-site/
– Theme Settings Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-theme-settings/Option 1: Use Envato Market to update your site
– link: https://envato.com/market-plugin/Option 2: Update manually
1. Login to ThemeForest and download the Enfold theme, right-click over the downloaded zip file and extract/unzip it.
2. It should generate a new folder, open it and look for the enfold folder
3. Right-click the enfold folder then zip it, here’s a tutorial on how to create a zip file in windows: https://www.howtogeek.com/668409/how-to-zip-and-unzip-files-on-windows-10/ (this should create enfold.zip
4. Log in to WordPress as and Admin.
5. Install and activate a maintenance plugin and put your site in Maintenance mode.
6. Go to Appearance > Themes, switch to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty then delete Enfold.
7. Click on the ADD NEW button.
8. Click on the UPLOAD THEME button.
9. Click BROWSE and choose enfold.zip file
10. Click the INSTALL NOW button and switch to Enfold or your child theme.
11. Remove the maintenance mode then deactivate and remove the maintenance plugin.Register the theme by following the instructions in https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Once this is done, the next time you update, you’ll only need to go to Enfold > Theme Updates and click on the Update button.Best regards,

April 29, 2021 at 12:39 pm #1297324Hi comprompt,
What error are you receiving?
Please try to check PHP Max Upload Size and PHP Post Max Size in LayerSlider WP > Options > System Status
If the value is less than 32M please increase it.
If you don’t know how to increase the size, please consider asking your hosting provider for assistance.Best regards,
NikkoApril 30, 2021 at 6:43 am #1297469We are the hosting provider, our website is hosted on digital ocean, and we are trying to update the PHP version as well but we are facing some issues with that have asked for support but we are unable to find a solution to this can you please guide?
Even after updating the PHP version in digital ocean the WordPress still throws the error that the PHP version needs to be updated.
Can you please help us solve this problem?April 30, 2021 at 12:08 pm #1297524Hi comprompt,
Please post us your login credentials (in the “private data” field), so we can take a look at your backend.
- Install and activate ” Temporary Login Without Password “.
- Go to ” Users > Temporary Logins ” on the left-side menu.
- Click ” Create New “.
- Add the email address for the account ( you can use (Email address hidden if logged out) ), as well as the ” Role ” making that the highest possible and the expiry about four days
( to be sure that we have enough time to debug ). - Click ” Submit “.
- You’ll now have a temporary account. Please provide us here in the private section the URL, so we can login and help you out.
When your issue is fixed, you can always remove the plugin!
If you prefer to not use the plugin, you can manually create an admin user and post the login credentials in the “private data” field.Best regards,
NikkoMay 3, 2021 at 7:57 am #1297922Hi,
We do not have any control panel for our backend. The website is hosted on a cloud server, so we have access to the root console (SSH Linux console). Let me know if you want us to share the credentials for that. And we also request you to create a remote session, so that we can understand the process and know the steps of solving this issue as we might switch our server in the future.May 4, 2021 at 8:27 am #1298204Hi comprompt,
These are the steps that you can make.
1. Go to the LayerSlider WP > Options > System Status then check PHP Post Max Size and PHP Max Upload Size is greater than the file size of the enfold zip file, then check if PHP ZipArchive Extension is enabled (if it’s not then please enable it then try to resume step 9). You can also check Server Settings via Tools > Site Health.
2. Check file and folder permissions, make sure to have all folders set to 755 and files set to 644 (except .htaccess).
3. Try to upload default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty One manually (similar to the method I posted above) if it works, resume to step 10 in Option 2: Update manually.
4. Check your security settings either in the server or if you have a plugin like Wordfence, if you make changes, go to step 3.
5. Update manually via FTP.
I hope this will help.Best regards,
NikkoAugust 16, 2021 at 11:02 pm #1317014Hi there,
I am having the same problem as comprompt – I’ve tried various avenues to update the enfold parent theme on our site (including options 1 & 2 you mentioned above), and none of them have worked.
Each time, I receive the message: “An error occurred while updating Enfold: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. css, css/dynamic-css.php, css/shortcodes.css ……”
Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you check if the all folders and .htaccess file has a permission of 755? then for all other files has a permission of 644?
Best regards,
