I had BWP Minify and Wordfence switched on – deactivated them now. Emptied caches first. No difference on iPad. Could you please have another look?

    Thank you,
    Louise

    Hi There,

The layout builder stopped working on my site. I have taken every step but having no success at all. This includes…

    De-activating all plugins
    Updated the theme (running 3.6.1)
Added the code snippet from https://kriesi.at/support/topic/having-problems-after-updating-to-wordpress-4-5-please-read-this-first/
    Disabled Wordfence Firewall

I am running a child theme, could this be an issue?

    Please help!

    Login details marked as private.

    Thanks

    Billy

    Hey Poirot!

    You can try out WordFence.
They are a really nice plugin, with many different possibilities and a huge database.

Please let us know if we can do anything else for you

    Cheers!

    Hi,

    I never installed wordFence before.

There was only one plug-in installed by default and after getting errors I disable and uninstalled it.

Removed, or disabled? Did you HAVE WordFence installed? If so, then perhaps, even with disabling or deleting you’ve got some crumbs of info still in a cache file, or in the database. If you HAD WordFence installed, enable it again, and turn it back to learning mode. It sounds to me like it doesn’t know to turn off the built in firewall in WordFence. Usually located in the .htaccess file.

If you can find a clean .htaccess file with basic WordPress info in it, overwrite the one there now, or reinstall/enable WordFence and turn it back to learning mode.

Anytime in the future if you did have WordFence installed, turn it back to learning mode. That will correct the problem.

    Hello,

I removed all the plugins, so I don’t have WordFence install. Thanks for your reply.

    cheers,
    Sean

Do you have WordFence or other security installed? If so, turn it back to Learning Mode. If you haven’t edited in a while, it forgets that you are allowed. By turning it back to learning mode, it will allow you to go back to editing as before.

If the username and api are correct in your theme options, have you checked to see if there’s something going on on the server that prevents a download, or do you have security plugins that may be flagging the download. WordFence, if left idle for a long period, would flag it as something nefarious. Resetting it to Learning Mode will fix that.

Being such an old version, you’d be better off updating via FTP this one time, and then maintaining it more often. There have been a lot of updates since your last upgrade. You will need to tweak the theme options because they have added so many.

I created a page and saved. I went back in to edit and the advanced layout builder will not display or load. It shows the loading icon, but the layout elements will not load.

I created the Contact Us page prior to creating these two. It loads fine. I created Hunting in South Fork, next. After creating the text, I added a full width Easy Slider and the publish and preview buttons grayed out and I could not update. I assumed WordFence needed to be modified to Learning Mode, had another window open and changed it there. The page would not let me update, still, so I created a new one. It allowed me to save, but now I still cannot edit.

Thinking it might be a cache issue, I tried to load it in a different browser (Chrome) and it won’t load there either.

    1. I’ve turned off all plugins. They are still off.
    2. WP, Enfold, and plugins are all updated.
    2. I recreated a new page, with the same problem.
    3. Old pages prior to updates load fine.
    4. Created you a login.
    5. Tried initially in Firefox.
    6. Tried again in Chrome.
    7. I’m on a Mac OSX.
    8. I also tried adding the jquery code in your ‘update to wordpress 4.5 please read this post’ notice. Didn’t fix, so I deleted.
    9. Reset Wordfence to learning mode.

    The two pages in question:
Hunting and Fishing in South Fork

    Hello!

One of my hosting company’s alerted me early this morning with this:

The following files/directories had insecure permissions (777), which
    have been remediated.

    /home/bbkeefe/inquilinosunidos.org/site2/wp-content/uploads/dynamic_avia

THEN, About 5 minutes ago WordFence alerted me about the EWWW Optimizer Plug-in. Could this be related, and/or does Enfold use it?

    Best regards,

    Jim

    Hi,

Thank you for the info. We didn’t know that’s possible. Could you please post the login details here so that we can check the settings? Maybe we’ll find something. And opening a new ticket in the Wordfence support forum will definitely help.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Rikard,

I was afraid so :-) county blocking is off totally now. The Philippines I guess :-) No iframe or whatever just plain text in portfolio items….

But, your answer did me realize that Wordfence recently has added an active firewall …..problem solved. My mistake is that could have notice it by checking the live traffic log. Most of the time you overlook what is just before you’re feet.

    Thanks for your help!
    Cheers
    Peter

    Hi,

you are still using all plugins. Please deactivate all of them as suggested, to check if one is causing this issue. Let us know about your results. Wordfence made some problems in the past, so I suggest to start to deactivate this one at first.

    Best regards,
    Andy

    Hi,

I haven’t contact Wordfence yet, because this happens only with ALB elements and ENFOLD, not on normal posts or pages, that are NOT created with ALB, and NOT with TwentySixteen theme, for example (all other plugins disabled).

    #641442

    Hi,

contact Wordfence support about it and let us know what they are replying about it.

    Best regards,
    Andy

    #641441

    Hi,

please contact Wordfence Support about this issue. Does something similar happen with a default WP theme too for you?

    Best regards,
    Andy

    Hey Peter,

I couldn’t log in because of WordFence, but I’m guessing it’s because of the network your client is on. Could he try outside of the network he’s in maybe?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

@Welmoed, first try to make your changes, which are not working right.
Then go to the settings of Wordfence -> Live Traffic, there you can see, what Wordfence blocked – and there you can whitelist this:
    http://screencloud.net/v/hktk

But this doesn’t helped in my case :-(

    #640889

I have the same issue, when I try to re-opening a text block of the ALB to add new text.
Disabling Wordfence solves this, but I won’t let Wordfence disabled all the time.
A whitelisting does not work – clicking in Wordfence’s “Live Traffic” at “whitelist” does not helped.

    #640886

I have exactly the same problem, but /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php cannot be whitelisted by Wordfence – no idea, why.
    Could you whitelist it @Welmoed?

Hi Please tell Kresi I want to complain. You left my site with another theme active – which is not enfold and it broke the site and left it a mess. I left the site working and with enfold even if slow. I

Now people from all over the world at this international festival of music tech think my site is rubbish and broken and the theme is no good.

Why have you not given me examples of the settings to change and which file name to chnage and an example?

This is what people used to do at the start of WordPress i.e. be proactive and helpful. This seems now as support – do as little as possible and make the client spend hours following up emails is requests for more information. It annoying. I am at an international Music Tech Festival in Euriope and people ask em about the theme what can I say to them?

I manage the server -what permissions do I need to change? Where? Please explain what the permissions are and if this is the case and I can change them.

I tried both auto and manual already and they did not work either way.

I have already tired other Minify cache methods – better wp minify – the one Kresi used at one time and it did not work

There is the same problem with the theme and other cache and minify plugins but not with Wordfence. I this is a serve issue why does that not break the theme?

Please explain which file name I need to change an example of what it needs to change to.

what is the best cache plugin and theme plugin.

    Thanks!

It seems that WordFence security is the ’cause’ of the issue. When that plugin is activated, I get the issue, when it’s deactivated, all works fine. It now also gives me this message after I click the “error fetching content” one away:

    Background Request Blocked

A background request to WordPress was just blocked for the URL /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php. If this occurred as a result of an intentional action, you may consider whitelisting the request to allow it in the future.

Of course I’d like to continue using the WordFence plugin on my site, so what do I do now?

    #639564

    Hi,
I restored all overwriting the theme and all errors are resolved but I don`t know what plugin I may be able to use for security because wordfence, sucury and wp super cache are not compatible with my theme (enfold)…but I need to have something for my security…what do you advice me?
    Thank you

    #639558

Maybe this is helpful. I updated to the latest version of Wordfence (v6.1.8) and when I went to edit a text box I get the same “failed to fetch” message, however upon closing that I got the following message dialog regarding “background request blocked for URL wp-admin/admin-ajax.php” with an option to whitelist. Clicked on “whitelist this action” and now all appears to be working.

I will keep you posted if I continue to see any unusual behavior.

    Thanks,

    Hello,
I have big problems after I had some optimization:
    1. Edit htaccess adding this:
    ## EXPIRES CACHING ##
    <IfModule mod_expires.c>
    ExpiresActive On
    ExpiresByType image/jpg “access 1 year”
    ExpiresByType image/jpeg “access 1 year”
    ExpiresByType image/gif “access 1 year”
    ExpiresByType image/png “access 1 year”
    ExpiresByType text/css “access 1 month”
    ExpiresByType text/html “access 1 month”
    ExpiresByType application/pdf “access 1 month”
    ExpiresByType text/x-javascript “access 1 month”
    ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash “access 1 month”
    ExpiresByType image/x-icon “access 1 year”
    ExpiresDefault “access plus 1 month”
    </IfModule>
    ## EXPIRES CACHING ##

    # BEGIN GZIP
    <ifmodule mod_deflate.c>
    AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/text text/html text/plain text/xml text/css application/x-javascript application/javascript
    </ifmodule>
    # END GZIP

    2. Install sucuri security
    3. Install wordfence
    4. Install BackWPup
    5. Install BWP Minify but after some problems with this, I decided to not use it anymore and I eliminate it.

So, the problems that I have now:
    1. I can not modify any page because all my content desapear from the edit page. In website everything looks good, I can see the text and images but inside everything is in white colours, AVIA module does’ t work properly and the code became visible :(
    http://de4teens.ro/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Screen-Shot-2016-05-27-at-21.15.01.png
    2. I tried to add a new page but I have the same problems: all text in white colour and AVIA not working.http://de4teens.ro/wp-http://de4teens.ro/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Screen-Shot-2016-05-27-at-21.15.01.png

    Hi,
can you help me with some ideas?

This is happening only on macbookpro – chrome browser

    #638986

    Hi fusion01!

There is an issue with wordfence, a false alarm with our script/.
They have to fix it from their side, on how it returns results I am afraid we can not do much about it.

Please do disable he plugin, at least for as long as you are working on it.

    Regards,
    Basilis

    #638895

Thanks for the help. Turns out to be a problem with WordFence Security Plugin. I get the following message and the spinning ALB.

    “Background Request Blocked

A background request to WordPress was just blocked for the URL /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php. If this occurred as a result of an intentional action, you may consider whitelisting the request to allow it in the future.”

Then my options are to whitelist or dismiss or close the box. Do I whitelist?

    Sarah
