    Hi guys

Thanks for the link and it was indeed php that needed updating. I employed the help of a brilliant local website company who did it for me and the site’s back up and running, still with some issues but they’re working on it this week to get it back to 100%

The upside to the whole episode is that they also provide a hosting package with maintenace, they’ll do all updates, fix anything that goes wrong and back the site up every week and the server’s faster than the one we’re on. So we now have a new hosting company and someone on board who’ll sort out any issues in the future.

Thanks for the help with this guys, feel free to close the topic.

sorry .. we sorted Yoast and we’re back to

Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage23/ze/br/ar/zebraremovals.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php on line 6

I’ve tried deactivating the plug ins one by one and updating them as required. I deactivated the last one – Yoast and the error message changed. I’ve updated Yoast and it said failed internal server error. Now the error message has changed to The theme directory “enfold-42” does not exist.

Hi, I got someone to do as suggested but now we’ve got this error message and we’re stuck

Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage23/ze/br/ar/zebraremovals.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold-42/header.php on line 6

I’ve contacted local website companies but nobody wants to get back to me. I’ve tried the hosting company but they also aren’t responding.

Any help at all with this would really be appreciated. I’m going to swtich the site back to a default Wordpres theme for now so the error message won’t be there.

    Thanks for the reply.

Sorry about the misunderstanding, it was Envato that offers hosting and set up –

For some reason I thought it was you guys.

My worry with trying to update anything on the site is that it will crash again and we’ll be without any site at all. I’m trying to working with the hosting company to restore the site but they’re really not helpful at all.

I’ll either contact Envato or try what you suggested above.

    Thanks for your time.

Just a bit of backgroubd to this, The website went offline on Monday morning this week ( 5th March ) as the hosting company had a technicak problem While it was down it looks like Worpress did an auto update. When the site came back on line we had a blank white screen. I asked the hosting company for help and they said disable the plug ins and turn them back on one by one as it looked like a plug in conflict error. I disabled the plug ins and the site crashed. As I mentioned we’ve got it back on line albeit in poor shape by using an old back up but can’t edit the site. I’ve asked the hosting company to roll the site back from any newer back ups they have but I’ve now been waiting for three days for them to reply to a support ticket. Not good. Please help if you can. Thanks

Hi Rikard, that might be a good plan regarding the thread as I’m not out of the woods yet.

The current situation is that the hosting company have restored the site back to last week and it’s up and running. However when I log into wp_admin I get the WordPress screen asking me to update my database as WordPress has been updated so it looks like it’s restored back to the point where I’d just installed the WordPress update. If I click to update my database some of my site will break because it’s still running a very old version of Enfold so as yet I haven’t done anything.

When I tried to update the theme last week first of all I tried to do it automatically via themes/updates but it broke the site so I restored it from a back up. I tried to update the theme via FTP ( Filezilla ) and when I went to wp_admin/themes there were multiple copies of the new version of Enfold showing. I clicked on one of them and the site broke showing the error message I had when I started this thread. Unfortunately this was 2.30pm on a Friday afternoon so help was thin on the ground.

So it looks like what I need to do is finish the WordPress update and then install the new theme update but I’m concerned that the site will break again so some advise as to what might have gone wrong and how to do it properly would be appreciated. Sadly I’m a novice at this, particularly FTP which most likely contributed/caused last week’s problem.

    Thanks
    Jonathan

Hi thanks for the reply, can you close this request please, I’ve managed to get the hosting company to restore the site and it’s back online. All I need to do now is try and update the theme .. which is what caused to site to break in the first place.

Just to add to the above – as the site is down I also can’t access the WordPress back end of the site , all I have to work with is Filezilla
