Hi guys I’ve updated ( or tried to ) my Enfold theme from a very out of date one I was running and now the site is down with the following error message

Warning: require_once(config-wpml/config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage23/ze/br/ar/zebraremovals.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/functions.php on line 32

Before I updated my theme I updated WordPress to the latest version which caused some issues with the Enfold them I was running .. hence the update.

I’ve tried to upload the new Enfold them manually via Filezilla but I’m still getting the same error message.

I’ve tried to upload a complete website back up I made before I did the Enfold update but still get the same message.

I made the site back up earlier this week and I’d already restored the site once using that back up so I know the back up is ok.

I’ve asked my hosting company to help me out by rolling back my website a week to get it back on line but they’re all busy drinking champagne and being international playboys to help me out.

Any help from you lovely people would be really appreciated, my desk is currently covered in hair I’ve torn out.

I’ll put a link in private content.

Just to add to the above – as the site is down I also can’t access the WordPress back end of the site , all I have to work with is Filezilla

    Hi zebraremovals,

The functions.php is not supposed to be in the themes folder, it’s in themes/enfold folder. Can you give us temporary FTP access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

Hi thanks for the reply, can you close this request please, I’ve managed to get the hosting company to restore the site and it’s back online. All I need to do now is try and update the theme .. which is what caused to site to break in the first place.

    Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe it would be better if we kept the thread open if you still might need help?

    Best regards,

Hi Rikard, that might be a good plan regarding the thread as I’m not out of the woods yet.

The current situation is that the hosting company have restored the site back to last week and it’s up and running. However when I log into wp_admin I get the WordPress screen asking me to update my database as WordPress has been updated so it looks like it’s restored back to the point where I’d just installed the WordPress update. If I click to update my database some of my site will break because it’s still running a very old version of Enfold so as yet I haven’t done anything.

When I tried to update the theme last week first of all I tried to do it automatically via themes/updates but it broke the site so I restored it from a back up. I tried to update the theme via FTP ( Filezilla ) and when I went to wp_admin/themes there were multiple copies of the new version of Enfold showing. I clicked on one of them and the site broke showing the error message I had when I started this thread. Unfortunately this was 2.30pm on a Friday afternoon so help was thin on the ground.

So it looks like what I need to do is finish the WordPress update and then install the new theme update but I’m concerned that the site will break again so some advise as to what might have gone wrong and how to do it properly would be appreciated. Sadly I’m a novice at this, particularly FTP which most likely contributed/caused last week’s problem.

    Thanks
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the feedback. I think the first order of business would be to update the database which WordPress is asking you to do. Second I would try to update the theme again, this time you might want to create backups of the site so that you can restore it yourself? Even better would be if you could create a staging version of the site and perform all the updates there.

If you should feel the need to hire someone to do this for you then I would recommend contacting a service like SteadyWP.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
