You should be running at least php5.6.3 for the code to work properly. Please consider upgrading your php version.

You have the header.php file in your child theme, please replace it with a fresh copy and make you customizations there.

I disabled the css merging and set the main color theme to the different one and it worked, the footer changed the color. What do you need to change?
