Hey Dean,
Well, the magazine uses the publish date to sort the events too. If you want some custom sort order you might want to hire someone who will so the customization for you, if the one you’re using now does not do the job for you. The magazine element was not really built to handle different sorting and category combos but I believe can be customized to do so by an experienced developer.

well, the easiest would be using css to hide the menu item on certain pages, or using a plugin for conditional menu loading.

This is as far as we can go without increasing the height of the logo. Do you want to make it bigger in all ways?
Google will not be happy with the logo this big especially on mobile.
