Hey Devin,
2. The white background is still disappearing from behind the menu when sized down to the point of the mobile menu kicking in.
3. Unfortunately I’ve tried re-installing the theme files a couple of times and the problem with the fonts not showing still remains. I am not using any caching plug-ins.
5. I tried installing the modernizr plugin, but it did not fix the issue with the Recent Post images (I did not notice any changes from installing the plug-in).
6. I followed the instructions for changing the menus responsive function, which worked for the most part. Although now I’m getting a weird 10-15px zone between where the menu changes from regular to mobile where the mobile menu shows and is mis-aligned to the top right. I’ve taken a screenshot of the issue, seen below. *Note this is not happening in IE8, only in modern browsers like Firefox and Chrome*

TomActually, after re-examining the code for issue #1, I saw I had accidentally inserted an extra character. After correcting that, the menu is no longer knocking words down to the next line, so we can cross that one off the list!
Hey Devin,
Thanks for the reply. I am currently using respond.js to add responsiveness to the site in IE8, which worked perfectly with the past versions of Enfold, but is now causing the breaking seen in the screenshot.
1. I tried this both with and without respond.js active, but unfortunately it did not fix the issue, the menu remained the same.
3. I tried this and unfortunately the problem remains. I’ve also seen several other people on the forum with the same issue in IE8 where the font renders as rectangles. Since this is the only instance on the site where I’m using the Entypo font, could you show me how to simply switch the magnifying glass icon out with an image of my choosing (so I can upload an image of a magnifying glass) or another work around?
4. This worked, thanks!
5. I do have respond.js installed, which may explain that. Unfortunately I tried the code you supplied both with and without respond.js enabled and cleared cache, but it doesn’t work either way.
6. I’ve now discovered an issue that has reared its ugly head again where the menu is overlaying the logo at certain sizes in every browser:

TomI’m not sure about the issue on the new update, but I’m currently running an older version of the theme and can confirm that the responsive aspect works in IE8.

This also happens with the ‘You might also like’ images.
Mayorninja seems to be correct about switching over to the Unicode encoding putting it back to the original style. Unfortunately, the newly downloaded font with Unicode encoding still has the same issues as the previous version and does not display in IE8.
So basically it sounds like we’re currently stuck with an unusable set of icons in IE8? Is there a way I can at least switch out the Search icon with an image to get it to display?
Thanks,
Tom
Hey there,
I’m having the same issues as edebe in IE8.
Here’s a screenshot of the stretched ‘You might also like’ images and the ‘Recent Posts’ images not filling the boxes correctly: http://i.imgur.com/0vW4EaA.png
A link to the page can be seen here: http://goo.gl/XBi6Xc
Thanks,
Tom
Hey Ismael,
Unfortunately that plug-in did not seem to fix any of the issues. My website can be seen here: http://goo.gl/jGUCw
You will notice most of the Entypo icons are broken rectangles. I was able to fix the menu/header overlap by manually changing the padding of each menu item, but it isn’t very convenient as I will have to copy/paste the code every time I update the theme. The images for the ‘Recent Posts’ plug-in do not fit in the boxes correctly, the blog header images on the ‘Trainers Toolbox page’ are all stretched, the bottom footer breaks due to length, the hovers on the ‘Meet the Team’ page cause the images to disappear, etc.
Hey Ismael,
Unfortunately the cartoon-y look isn’t what I’m going for. Also, as you mentioned, it was missing many icons across all browsers. And most importantly, it didn’t fix anything in IE8.
Thanks,
Tom
The main issue is that the theme doesn’t simply lose a few bells and whistles when downgrading to IE8, but becomes completely broken and unusable. The menu overlays the header logo making the website impossible to navigate, the buttons become transparent and basically invisible, 90% of the Entypo icons break and become non-descript rectangles, image hover states cause images to go completely invisible, images don’t fit into their placeholder borders, most images are skewed and stretched beyond recognition, and the list goes on.
It’s really quite disappointing given how smoothly the theme works in other browsers. And it wouldn’t be so annoying if the theme didn’t claim to be IE8 compatible.
Most of my company uses IE8, so I’ve been forced to push back our new site launch for quite some time so I can hack the theme enough to get it at least be functional.
Hey Ismael,
Thanks for the response. I went ahead and downloaded the new font files from Fontello, named them the same as the corresponding files on the server, and replaced them. Unfortunately, after reloading my page, it seems all the icons are now very cartoon-y looking rather than the flat icons that should be appearing. This is strange because Fontello doesn’t even seem to have any cartoon-y fonts. Ideas?
I re-uploaded the old fonts, but here’s a screenshot of the cartoon-y icons: http://i.imgur.com/671My4S.jpg?1
Thanks,
Tom
Thanks, I’ll give the stylesheet a shot. I installed the plug-in, but unfortunately it didn’t fix any of the issues in IE8.
Hey guys,
I’m not running compatibility mode in IE8, it’s simply how it is by default.
I went ahead with all of the custom css you recommended, Ismael (thanks for the help!). Some of it worked and some did not. Here are the remaining issues:
– Menu overlays logo
– Applying the img { max-height: 100% } broke my layer slider (images didn’t fit together anymore, things were off-center), so I didn’t use that
– The ‘You Might Also Like’ images on blog posts are stretched vertically
– The ‘Special Heading’ font is a bit too big/wide and makes several titles stretch into the sidebar, is there a way to reduce the size of these on IE 8 only?
– Most of the icons from the included icon font do not work and appear as 2 tiny rectangles
– My sidebar forms all seem to stretch off the page
– Images in the ‘Recent Posts’ widget only take up a portion of the image holder box
– Images on the ‘Meet the Team’ page go white/disappear on hover
– While there is now a hover effect on the buttons, I would prefer to use the gradients which were previously on the buttons. Is that possible? Or at least make it that way for non-IE8 browsers?
Thanks,
Tom
Hey Ismael, thanks for the response.
I implemented the code you suggested, which did fix the blog previews and the buttons, although the menu issue did not change. Suggestions?
Also, I discovered a few more issues:
– The header logo is stretched vertically
– The ‘You Might Also Like’ images on blog posts are stretched vertically
– The ‘Special Heading’ font is a bit too big/wide and makes several titles stretch into the sidebar, is there a way to reduce the size of these on IE 8 only?
– Most of the icons from the included icon font do not work and appear as 2 tiny rectangles
– My sidebar forms all seem to stretch off the page
– Images in the ‘Recent Posts’ widget only take up a portion of the image holder box
– Links in the footer are randomly underlined and not underlined
– Images on the ‘Meet the Team’ page go white/disappear on hover
EDIT: Also, it seems that the buttons no longer have hover effects, in IE8 or Firefox/Chrome/Safari/etc. Is there a way to get those working again?
Hopefully all of these items are fixable, as a majority of my company uses IE8.
Thanks for your support,
Tom
Re-saving it worked, thanks much Kriesi!
Got it, works like a charm. Thanks much for the help Nick!
Tom
Hey Kriesi,
Thanks for the reply. I checked that setting on my only slider, and the only option under skin is fullwidth, which it is set to. Any other possibilities?
Thanks,
Tom
Hey Nick,
Thanks for the reply. The ‘Login’ button is now styled correctly on hover, although the ‘Send’ button for the contact form at the bottom of the sidebar does not have a hover state anymore. Is there a way to add the same hover state to that?
Thanks again,
Tom
Hey Dude,
I checked and there are no temporary folders within either of those directories.
Thanks,
Tom
Hey Dude,
Unfortunately this code does not work either as it makes the whole button change color and the text dark grey. Please advise.
Thanks,
Tom
Hey Ismael,
The website is working, I’ve left the code as you supplied it so you can see what it’s doing: http://aaacampus.aaa.biz/e-learning/
Thanks,
Tom
Hey Ismael,
Unfortunately after adding the code, the only thing that changes on hover is that the border changes to white, which does not match the other buttons. Please advise.
Thanks,
Tom

Hey Ismael,
Thanks for the response, I had to change the directory path a bit, but that worked for the most part. The only issue now is that the hover states are different. Is there a way to make those consistent as well?
Thanks,
Tom
Unfortunately I tried both Kriesi and Dude’s recommendations and neither work. Both simply make the menu disappear at the size where it normally overlaps.
I’m available, just drop me an email at munz.tom [at] gmail.com with that kind of customizations you’re looking to have done and I can price out a quote for you.
UPDATE: After turning off all plug-ins and turning them back on one-by-one, it seems WP Minify is causing the problem with the new version. It worked fine with the last version, any ideas why it’s breaking 1.6?
Thanks,
Tom
Hi Ismael,
It only happens at certain resolutions when the responsive layout sizes itself down.
Here’s a screenshot of what I’m talking about: http://i.imgur.com/eIZyfXY.png
Thanks,
Tom
I’m having the same issue.
