I couldn’t see a gap there so I’m guessing you are using the slider which does not render a gap? Please activate the slider which causes the gap and we’ll give you some custom CSS to get rid of it.

If all your custom code is in the child theme you shouldn’t have anything to worry about, but please always do a full backup of the site before any updates to be on the safe side. If anything should go wrong you can always roll back.

The latest version of the theme is currently 3.4.6, maybe the 2 was a typo in your last reply? I tried logging in but the login page just renders blank, not sure what’s going on there?
