Hey!

Please make sure, you are always using the latest version ( and you also have a backup ).
When you do receive an update email, then it is a difference version! We try to make as less small updates ( to avoid our users spending time on that ), but increase the option to have our themes been stable.

Pages are been edited through the Dashboard -> Pages and not the Cpanel of the server.
Do you have access to your WordPress dashboard?

Most probably because on that site, WP Debug is on.
Can u create a child theme and add the function there, will work better for you and will not brake on new updates.

What id your level of CSS? You can use some media queries, to hide elements on mobile.
here is an example:
