How to Register a Theme on Enfold 3.3.2? (Do I first need to download the latest installable WP version?)

    Following on from https://kriesi.at/support/topic/can-i-load-a-new-enfold-theme-onto-wordpress-5-5-on-a-server-using-php-5-6-30/#post-1402497

Having created a token for RayBall.co.uk, I can’t register the theme using the method suggested on: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/#toggle-id-1

Because the current theme is so old, (Enfold Version: 3.3.2) it does not have the ‘Enter a valid Envarto private token. Option.

    Instead, it has:
Update your Theme from the WordPress Dashboard
    With options:
    1. Your Themeforest User Name
    2. Your Themeforest API Key
    What should I do?

I was advised: To update your old versions of Enfold you will need to download the latest installable WP version from your Theme Forest account and upload it to your WordPress ▸ Appearance ▸ Themes ▸ Add Themes ▸ Add New

Do I do this before or after I have registered the Theme?
If I first need to register, how do I register the Theme?

    Best Regards
    Nick Ray Ball

    Hey Nick Ray,
Thanks for your question, you can not register v3.3.2 because it doesn’t support the Envato Token, so first follow the steps to update the theme:

download the latest installable WP version from your Theme Forest account and upload it to your WordPress ▸ Appearance ▸ Themes ▸ Add Themes ▸ Add New….

then after you can register the updated theme.

    Best regards,

    Hi Mike, Thanks.
Does it matter which enfold licence I download it from?

    1. Will the download form from my 2015 licence and my 2023 licence be the same?
    2. Can I use the same download for my other 5 domains once I have created tokens for them, or should I always use the download from the licence to which the token will be attached?

    Best Regards
    Nick Ray

    Hi,
The download files are the same, only the Token which is based on your license is different.

    Hi Mike, Thanks,

As I uploaded the theme it said:
‘The link you followed has expired’.
    ‘Please try again.’

I read somewhere that you do not cover installations of WordPress and that’s fine.
However, the solution I found for this problem does go into Server Admin.

But my main question is to ask — is there a simpler way?

And if this is a rare problem let you know of the solution I found for this problem when loading the Enfold Theme I bought last month onto my server.

I came across this problem a few weeks back on my OVH dedicated server, I asked ChatGTP and it advised how to use Plesk to change the PHP setting on the subscription on my server to:
    ! IMPORTANT
    Vital Enfold php server settings:
    Change the default 2GB to > post_max_size 64M
    Change the default 2GB to > upload_max_filesize 64M = 64M
    Increase the default timeout to > max_execution_time = 300
(Or whatever is the largest size the server allows, but when I changed the OVH server to the above it loaded the Enfold 2023 Theme.)

At a guess, back in 2015, the Enfold theme was not as large, but as time passed the file size grew and so the php setting on the servers need to be bigger and the timeout longer.
    Does this Sound Right?

I have not tried this on RayBall.co.uk yet because it’s on a different server, and, as it’s a shared server it may not be as simple as it is on my server, I don’t have Plesk access, but their support is pretty good and should be able to work it out.

However, if there is a simpler solution, I’m all ears.

    Cheers

    Hi,
Typically the error: The link you followed has expired means the server doesn’t have the PHP ZipArchive Extension enabled, this is a basic extension that allows the server to extract zip files. Ask your web host to check and enable it.

As for your question about the OVH server, is it about the same error as above or is your question about importing an Enfold Demo on OVH?
I have not seen any issues on OVH for using or building with Enfold, apart from enabling the PHP ZipArchive Extension.
But for importing an Enfold Demo, the problem with OVH servers is they have disabled the set_time_limit() function and will not enable it so the import times out. If the manual import method fails due to the disabled PHP function, try creating a localhost WordPress install and import the demo and then use the plugin Duplicator and migrate your localhost version to your webhost, see the video on the plugin page if you have not used this plugin before, it is quite easy.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Thanks, Mike,

It seems easy to activate that extension via Plesk on my OVH dedicated server, and it will be easy for the host of RayBall.co.uk to do the same.

My question about the OVH server was not a question, I was just letting you know about a workaround that Chat GTP suggested.
But your solution is much simpler, and simpler is much better.

Thanks a million, my fingers are crossed that there will be no more problems with this.

I am just hoping that the pagination bug and the controller for making blogs, repair themselves when I update the theme and I do not have to reload from the backup and update the theme before updating WordPress.
Do you think it will work that way?

    Cheers

    Hi Mike,
Oh by the way as I have a dedicated OVH server, I can set the set_time_limit() to what I choose, and it was not disabled. At a guess, they have a standard protocol for their shared servers that disables it.
    Cheers Nick Ray.

    Hi,
Glad to hear, I don’t expect you to have issues with the pagination after you update.
This thread is getting quite long now and off the topic of registering your theme. I recommend that we close this and after you update if you have new questions please open a new thread. Thank you for your understanding and for using Enfold.

    Best regards,
    Mike
