Aloha from Hawai‘i! We have been running Enfold Child on our site since 2014 and have not had much need to update our theme. However now we would like to add some Google Maps to our site and in order to enter our Google Maps API it looks like we need a newer version of the theme.
I have downloaded our current Enfold and Enfold Child folders via FTP so I have a backup of them. I will be running a full backup of our site shortly.
Anyway I know jumping from 3.4.7 to 4.5.x is a major leap…is it worth it, and if so, what sorts of problems should I anticipate?
Mahalo!
Hey The Kohala,
The update to 4.5.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please delete the old version of the theme, then upload the new one. Make sure that you have backups of the site before you start updating.
I would suggest that you copy the site to a staging environment first and update there to see if you run into any problems, then you can update the production site.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Best regards,
Rikard
