    I have a client who is running Enfold 3.6.1.

    If I buy your theme now, will the upgrade break the site, or should it be a seamless update, since the theme/company is the same?

    Hey Keith Gillespie,

    It can be 50/50, but in any case, you need to make a full website backup, be running php7.2 or higher, and get back to us should you have any issues or need help with the update.

    Thank you, Victoria,

    I bought the newest version of Enfold. I’ve never had to load a new theme while running a (very old) theme that supports a Child theme.

    If I just upload the new Enfold theme, will it overwrite the Enfold 3.6.1 or will it load separately because it doesn’t recognize the much older version? I just want to make sure that the Child connects to the new theme properly upon changing the theme version.

    Hi Keith,

    Thanks for the update. The update to 4.7.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541

    You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

    If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.

    If you want to keep the old version, then you can upload the new version to a new folder folder using FTP, then rename the old folder to enfold_old for example, and then new one to simply enfold. That way you can check if everything works as it should. If not then you can rename the folders again in order to activate the old version back.
