Hi,
I, like so many others can’t access Advanced Editor once I upgraded WP.
The upgrade won’t work by loading the zip folder in the normal manner. I can install via FTP. Should I first delete the older version? If I do that do I risk losing work? would it work to rename the existing installation?
Thank you,
John
March 26, 2020 at 7:28 am #1197960Hey John,
You can update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update. You don’t need to delete the old version, you can upload the new version to a folder which is called something else than enfold. Once you have activated the new version and everything is working as it should, you can rename the new folder enfold and delete the old one. Also remember to activate the theme again under Appearance in the WordPress menu.
You can also use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
After you have updated then try to activate the Classic Editor in the main page of the theme options.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/

March 27, 2020 at 5:47 pm #1198385Hi Rikard.
I spoke too soon. I had only tested the theme, but had not yet loaded enfold-child. Since I see this ticket is not yet closed, I hope you will see this addendum. I installed the enfold-child folder two ways (https://prnt.sc/rnvpcg & https://prnt.sc/rnwb5x). Both ways I get a Broken Theme error in Dashboard > Appearance > Themes (Dashboard > Appearance > Themes). I am now running Enfold v. 4.7.3
Thank you
March 27, 2020 at 6:31 pm #1198393If I upgrade Enfold 4.1.2 with no child theme installed following the above manual ftp instructions will the theme options settings be lost?
March 28, 2020 at 5:23 am #1198517Hi John,
Thanks for the update. I’m not sure why you sent two screenshots, are they from different sites? Anyway, in one screenshot I see that you have a sub folder in the child theme folder, please move the files into the root of the child folder. In the other one I see that enfold is called “enfold theme”, did you exactly that name to your child theme style.css?
Best regards,
RikardMarch 28, 2020 at 5:24 am #1198518Hi dangramm,
Your theme settings should not be lost, but you can make a backup of them by exporting them under Enfold->Import/Export before updating.

RikardMarch 28, 2020 at 7:31 pm #1198665Hi Rikard,
The two screenshots were from two different child installations on the same site. When one didn’t work I tried the other.
The “enfold theme” name happened when I had the two theme versions installed with different names. I should have thought to change that back, but when I did, the child theme still didn’t work.
I tried again to install the child as you described, but still couldn’t get the theme and the child to recognize each other, so I did the smart thing. I deleted all enfold from wp-content>themes on the server and installed the zip files from Appearance>Themes. That worked; theme and child are now playing well together. And looking at the files, they are now installed exactly as I had them when the child theme didn’t work.
The next time I do this it will be on a much busier website. This was good practice for that.
Thanks for your help.John
