Hello
I am doing some updates to a website that has not had its Enfold theme updated since 2016 – opps. The automatic updates won’t work as still running the old api system so need to do manually.
The site is running a child theme of Enfold. My question is to update the theme will this work…?
– Leave the child theme running
– Download the installable Zip file of Enfold from themeforest (latest version)
– Appearance > Themes > Upload themes > Install nowAny other steps?
Do I need a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/ anymore or is it redundant as WordPress can now update from Zipped themes in the dashboard?
Thank you for your help.
January 21, 2021 at 6:34 pm #1274497this plugin is nice to have if the steps between the Versions are not to big. It will create a “backup-zip” file of the WordPress installation. If it is as nice as a real backup i don’t know.
with the now increasingly faster internet connections, an update via ftp is actually no longer a time-consuming task.
I therefore recommend: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/some-hints-and-advice-to-update-enfold/#post-1056107January 22, 2021 at 1:18 pm #1274688Hi sensiblekaren,
The update to 4.7.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Thanks @guenni007 for helping out :-)
Best regards,
Rikard -
