I am looking at the directions for updating my theme but I am wondering if I will lose all of my content id updating by uploading new theme via zip folder as it is not a child theme?
I am not a super technical guy but can work with instruction. Can you please help me resolve this issue as one of my customers sites needs to be updated and worked on.
Also is there a way to make my theme a child for future needs?
I really appreciate any help provided as this is a stressful time for me.

January 21, 2020 at 6:47 am #1176581Hi,
Sorry for the problem. The update to 4.7.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
After you have updated then try to activate the Classic Editor in the main page of the theme options.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by this:
I am wondering if I will lose all of my content id updating
Could you try to explain a bit further what that means please?
Best regards,

thank you very much for your help as I was able to perform the update. The problem with the site I was worried about after update still did not show images.
When I deactivated all plugins it resolved but come to find w3 total cache is the main issue. Is there a resolution to this or can we not use w3 total cache with Enfold theme?
Thanks again in advance as you have been very helpful. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and have a nice day.
March 14, 2020 at 7:34 pm #1193119My apologies for not adding that it breaks my slider images and all of my portfolio images
March 15, 2020 at 5:37 am #1193172Hi,
Thanks for the update, I can’t see anything obviously broken on your site though. Could you post screenshots of the problem please? If you are having problems with caching then please try to clear the cache from the plugin and leave it deactivated, you can activate it again once you see that everything is working as it should.
Best regards,
RikardMarch 15, 2020 at 4:13 pm #1193234Hi Rikard,
If w3 total cache is activated the site breaks. It will not show images and I turned it off so that my client could see i found the problem but talked to my hosting and they said it is a developer issue and I do not know what to do. I have another Enfold theme built and using w3 total cache with no issues.
What could be the problem. Please help as I am at a loss. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
what should I do keep the site broken? It is hurting my clients business so trying to figure out a solution. Thank you.
March 15, 2020 at 9:22 pm #1193301Hi Rikard,
For now I think I may have found the resolve as there was a file named CACHE in FTP that once deleted, the problem for now went away. Thank you for your attention to this and ill repost if the issue returns. Have a nice week.
