    Hi there,
I really hope you can help me.
I bought your theme 8-9 years ago, built our website and everything was fine. So far.
Now it was hacked, there is a forwarding. Ionos could not find the bug.
As far as I was told, due to no recent updates for wordpress and enfold.
Ionos told me, the jump between my and the current versions is to big, so that simple updates are not possible. So they upgraded wordpress and put another theme on the server. It looks awful.
What can I do now? it is really important, because it is the website of our lawfirm.
Is it possible to transfer the (old) content into a new version of enfold?
And if so, who can do this? Can you? I mean I would pay good, I am quite desperate.
Please help. If you can, what do I have to do?
I just bought a new licens of enfold.
Thank you and all the best
    Arne Egging

    Hi,

If you are running a version prior to 4.4.1, then the update to 5.6.8 has to be done manually, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or upload the new theme files via Appearance->Themes->Add New, and select to overwrite the old theme files after the upload has finished.

If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard,

thank you so much for your answer.

If I update one way r the other, will I be able to keep my content?

    All the best,
    Arne

    Hi Arne,

Yes, you will still be able to keep your content regardless of which method you choose to update.
However, we would still recommend for you to always do a backup before doing any updates.

    Best regards,

    Hi Nikko,

do you have step-by-step instructions how to do it.

How to do the backup, the update of wordpress and then of your theme, and then how to import the content.

I know how to work with ftp/filezilla for example, but the rest is difficult for me, for you probably not. What folder do I have to backup/download?

    It would be very heldpful.

Thank you and all the best

    Hi Arne,

Here’s a tutorial on how to backup your site using Duplicator plugin: https://www.wplearning101.com/how-to-backup-wordpress-site-using-duplicator/

    Hi,
I am sorry to bother you again. I did not quite get it.
I have wordpress 4.9.25 and Enfold 3.0.4 and Enfold child 1.0 (which is active).
Can you please give me a short step-to-step instruction for

    1. backing up the site (why using duplicator, isn´t it enough to download the entire site via ftp?)
    2. updating wordpress
    3. updating Enfold
    4. reimport the content (menus, sites…) without importing the bug

I´d be so thankful, if you could help me.
    All the best, Arne

    Hi,

    Thank you for the inquiry.

You have to use the Duplicator or any plugin of the same kind in order to create a backup of the database and the server files, including the theme files. For more info on how to update the theme manually, please check the links below.

    Hi,
let me please ask one more question.
Because I can´t install Duplicator due to old php-version.

Can I just download my entire files via ftp to my computer (to have a backup instead of using Duplicator), then update wordpress to the current version, then install enfold (current version) and then import my former content from my computer (how would I do that?)?

    Please let me know.
    Best regards
    Arne

    Hi,
Downloading your site files will not be enough because you need to also backup your site database, this is where your site data, posts & pages, and your theme settings are stored.
Most webhosts have a backup feature, check with your webhost how you can backup your site & database, and how to restore it if you need to.
Once your are confident that you can restore a backup then go ahead and update your site.
Here is an easy way to update your site manually:
First download the latest installable WP version from your Theme Forest account and upload it to your WordPress ▸ Appearance ▸ Themes ▸ Add Themes ▸ Add New
    WordPress_Appearance_Themes_Add-Themes_Add-New.jpg
after you choose the zip file and click install, you will see a This theme is already installed message because you are updating, you can continue
    Installing_theme_from_uploaded_file_This_theme_is_already_installed.jpg
then you will see the Theme updated successfully message.

    Best regards,
    Mike
