    Hi There,

    I recently updated our site with Enfold theme to 5.2.1 via FTP.

    The site is also running Enfold CHILD.

    After updating, the FOOTER would not display the widgets and socket as normal.

    Instead, ALL Pages and Blog archives were listed. I could not seem to get the original footer to load on the page……

    Also, some page elements were broken by the new theme – ie box heights etc

    Can you help please?

    I have reverted the site to a backup so the changes have been reversed however, I can provide screenshots of the issue……

    #1370770

    Hey CBurgo,

    Footer; are you overriding header.php or footer.php in a child theme? If so, then those files need to be replaced with the parent theme files. You can add your customisations back in after that.

    Elements breaking; we would need to see the actual problem in order to help you out. Maybe you could update on a staging or development version of the site first?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rickard,

    Thanks for your reply……

    I may need to get some more experienced help with what you’re suggesting, but, just so I’m clear would it be like this….?

    1. Copy the Enfold CHILD Header.php & Footer.php file contents into a txt file

    2. Paste NEW Enfold Parent Header.php & Footer.php file contents into the CHILD Header/Footer files

    3. Paste Customisations ONLY of original Child Files back into updated Endfold Child Header/Footer files

    Like that? (Sorry if I’m not correct)

    Yes, I can push to STAGING and test the above – Thanks for the suggestion…….

    I also really appreciate your help if I have further questions.

    kind regards
    Cameron

    Hi Cameron,

    I think the easiest way would be to do this:

    1. Rename footer.php and header.php to for example old_footer.php and old_header.php for example.

    2. Upload footer.php and header.php to the child theme from the parent theme files.

    3. Copy your customisations from the old files, into the new.

    We can do it for you if you share WordPress and FTP login details with us in private.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Thanks Rikard,

    I really appreciate your help…… let me take a look and see if I can do it (best to learn while I’m at it, right?)

    If not, or if I’m not clear on something, I’ll come back to you asap……

    Thanks again for your help…..

    Hi Rickard,

    I have updated my site to Enfold 5.2.1 and updated both Header.php and Footer.php in the Enfold Child Theme……..

    I did the Child Them file updates via the THEME FILE EDITOR in “Appearance”.

    I had both new Parent and Old Child php txt files open so I could compare file contents and identify the customisation section….
    I combined the New Parent file contents with Old File Customisations in a NEW CHILD HEADER.php file, then pasted that into the Header.php editor in Appearance/Theme File Editor. I trust that is ok?

    The Page Element issues seem to be resolved, which is great! :)

    However the FOOTER is still showing 4 columns with headings ;
    – Intersting Links (nothing underneath
    – Pages (with ALL pages listed)
    – Categories (With Blog Categories listed)
    – Archive (With ALL Archives listed)

    I can’t seem to get the Widgets to show in the 4 Column Footer???

    In Enfold Child Theme Options / FOOTER – If I set the “Default Footer & Socket Settings” to “Don’t Display the Socket and Footer Widgets”, the Footer disappears as expected. However, when I switch back to “Display the Footer Widgets and Socket”, the Footer shows the 4 Columns listed above, as opposed to the 4 Footer Widgets shown in the Appearance/Widgets.

    I’ve also just noticed that any Blog with a YouTube Video shows the YouTube URL in the Post Preview comments?

    I’ve listed LIVE SITE credentials below. If you’d take a look and let me know what you think, that’d be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Cameron

    Hi,

    Thanks for the details. Could you share FTP login details with us as well please?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1371157

    Hi Rickard,

    Please see SFTP below

    #1371184

    Hi,

    Thanks for that. I’ve added the latest versions of footer.php and header.php, but it’s still not working, likely since you are running an old version of the theme. Please try following this, then update to Enfold 5.2.1: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1371300

    Hi Rickard,

    Thanks. Had I not uploaded the latest footer and header.php files correctly?…….

    Either way, I have added the token to the child theme as suggested but that didnt seem to make any difference……

    The Child Theme Update sections still says “….No Updates available. You are running the latest version! (4.5.7)….”

    So, I’m not clear on your next suggestion to update to 5.2.1

    Are you suggesting that the CHILD theme should be updated to 5.2.1??? (If so it would lose it’s customisations, correct?)

    If you’re not suggesting that, the Parent theme is already 5.2.1?

    Can you take a look please?

    Thanks in advance

    Cameron

    #1371350

    Hi,

    Please try to install and configure this plugin instead, to see if the updates comes through there: https://envato.com/market-plugin/. An automatic update will only update your parent theme, not the child.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1371393

    Hi Rickard,

    Thanks for your help.

    Can you be a bit more specific with what you want me to do?

    I added the Market Plugin you suggested and all it seemed to do was add 24 versions of the Enfold Theme to my Themes page?

    As I mentioned, the Enfold parent theme on my site is ALREADY showing as 2.5.1?

    What is the market plugin supposed to do, exactly? And what, exactly, are you suggesting I need to update? Enfold is already 2.5.1????

    #1371421

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. I’m not sure how it happened, but your themes folder seems to be full of things which shouldn’t be there. Could you restore a backup from a point before this happened please? I can update manually for you after that.

    The Envato Market plugin will list your Envato markets purchases, and you can update them from the plugin as well.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1371585

    Hi Rickard,

    I have reverted the site to a backup point and checked the themes folder which looks normal now. Please proceed with the update.

    P.S – I could not seem to see any way to update the Enfold Theme via the plugin, when it was installed…….not sure if that’s related to the themes folder issue, but all themes were up to date, with no option to update them…..

    #1371665

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. The WordPress login details are not working now, could you check or create a new one for us please?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1371717

    Sure can,

    Please see below

    #1371752

    Hi,

    Thanks for that. I’ve uploaded the latest version of the theme for you, and added the new footer.php and header.php in the child. Your old files are still in the child, if you should need to copy something from them.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1371831

    Thanks Rickard,

    The Footer looks good now, thanks for your help.

    However, the update has definitely broken some of the page elements……

    Eg – Just below the top fold on the HOME PAGE (greatmanagers.com.au) there is a 3 column element that has

    Training & Development
    Coaching & Mentoring
    Survey & Assessment

    These have been broken in that all the COPY under the image is compressed and the Find Out More link is covered by the other copy?

    I have a screenshot of what the section look like, if there is a way for me to share that with you?

    There are other elements on the page that have changed as well………

    Can you clarify exactly what has changed in the Child Theme files? Is it ONLY the Header and Footer Files?

    Thanks in advance
    Cameron

    #1371898

    Hi,

    You can upload screenshots to a service like Google Drive, Dropbox or similar, then link to it here.

    I doubt that the update caused this though, since the styling is coming from your child theme:

    .row_courses a {
        color: #003087;
        font-family: 'open_sansbold';
        font-size: 20px;
        display: block;
        position: absolute;
        left: 0;
        right: 0;
        bottom: 75px;
    }

    .row_courses a {
        font-size: 17px;
        bottom: 35px;
    }

    The row_courses class is not a theme class either, so it’s something that has been added by someone else.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1372010

    Thanks Rickard,

    Here’s what it looks like now, POST update

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZyS-yl4bRISK0xSk2x9WzymxL9lXCWJh/view?usp=sharing

    Here’s what it SHOULD Look like and did look like PRE update

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pGkw012EJ0taj_OUvvRWzczNvugqVxTV/view?usp=sharing

    You can see the elements are shorter and the light grey to the background of the column elements is now missing.

    Can you clarify whether the styling that you’ve quoted is currently IN the php files? In your previous email you mentioned that “….Your old files are still in the child, if you should need to copy something from them…..” Are you saying that the (row courses) styling you’ve quoted has NOT been copied into the new Header/Footer.php files????

    Thanks in advance

    Cameron

    #1372087

    Hi,

    Styling is generally not added in PHP files, and that is not the case here either. Please see the code in the screenshot in private, it’s coming from the file which is also in private.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1372139

    Ok, thanks Rickard,

    Do you have any thoughts on why the styling worked Before the update, but seems to be broken After the update?

    ie Why doesn’t the styling in the Child Style.css file work for the element I shared with you via the screenshots?

    Is there anything we can do to fix the element so it displays as it did previously?

    Thanks and regards

    #1372166

    Hi,

    I can’t say why the CSS is not working now unfortunately, but please try this in Quick CSS:

    .row_courses a {
        position: inherit;
    }

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1372356

    Ok, thanks Rickard,

    I added the row courses inherit code into the Style.css folder and it has “Unjumbled” the element, but all of the background colours of page sections are still missing?

    The issue only seems to be a problem on the HOME PAGE – other pages still have section background colours. Any ideas on how to get the background colours back on the home page?

    Also, the LOGO in TOP LEFT hand corner has somehow reverted to an ALL WHITE version of the logo???? Its like the theme is selecting this Transparent Logo in the Advanced Styling – https://www.greatmanagers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/logo-light.png instead of THIS logo which is nominated in the Theme Options – https://www.greatmanagers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Great-Managers-Logo-Website-Header.png

    Not sure what is causing all these glitches?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. I can’t see any background colours set on the front page, did you add those with custom CSS as well?

    The white logo is set under Enfold->Header->Transparency Options.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1372463

    Hi Rickard,

    It seems like we’re getting crossed wires here, sorry if I haven’t been clear enough.

    Re your questions;
    1. “…I can’t see any background colours set on the front page, did you add those with custom CSS as well?….”

    That’s what I’m saying……the background colours have disappeared since the update. please see the screenshot below of what the homepage SHOULD Look like (ie as it was BEFORE the update) – you’ll note the light grey banner colour down the page, along with a curved line version of the separator towards the bottom.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/12XJkFW2ocSiqnH-uvQTF8spYrEuNhsVK/view?usp=sharing

    This is the styling I’m trying to get back from before the update and yes, I believe it was set in the child theme styling.

    2. “…The white logo is set under Enfold->Header->Transparency Options…..”

    Yes, I understand that is where the White logo is set, per my email…… But the standard page logo SHOULD NOT be the White Version – it should be the coloured version………See this screenshot – https://drive.google.com/file/d/11vK8vb_Z84qhHPaPw0ok6JxrrVtbrZg7/view?usp=sharing

    PRIOR to the update, when the screen first loaded, prior to any scrolling, the COLOURED logo appeared, as per the Enfold Child->Theme Options->Logo.
    Post the update, the white logo has now been inserted at the top of the page – we did NOT make this change??? and I’m not clear on why the white logo is now showing at the top, instead of the coloured version?

    Its like on ANY of the pages with custom Styling (/home, /academy, etc) the logo being called is WHITE – see https://www.greatmanagers.com.au/academy/

    But on any of the pages where there is no stying, the CORRECT coloured logo is being called – see https://www.greatmanagers.com.au/resources/#free-training

    Can you clarify the above please?

    Thanks in advance

    Cameron

    #1372539

    Hi,

    1. Thanks for the clarification. I checked the first area which has a grey background, which contains a 1/1 and 3*1/3, but those elements are not even included in a section. I’m guessing that the background has been added with custom CSS, but we can’t really be responsible for custom code. Maybe the person who did that for you could check it? I would recommend that you try to use the Layout Builder as much as possible, instead of using custom CSS. If you restore the old version somewhere, then we could tell you where the CSS was coming from

    2. The theme is doing what it should here, since a transparent header has been selected on those pages. I’m guessing that this was modified with custom code as well, since the header is not transparent at all. If you don’t want a transparent header, then please select a different option in the Layout menu on each page.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1372580

    Hi Rickard,

    Thanks for the update.

    1a I have tried copying an older site backup to STAGING…… but that site now shows a Critical Error when trying to load the page……which was the original issue I was trying to deal with re the update to ENFOLD….. I will try to find out what is causing the critical error and come back to you.

    1b. SHouldn’t the CHILD THeme Custom Styling STILL WORK despite the update? If you look at the HOME Page link that I shared, the Custom code is NOT working, but if you look at the /academy page I shared, it IS Working? Look at the various pages on the site, the CSS is working on ALL BUT THE HOME page?

    QU – Why would it work on some pages but not the HOME Page? That seems to be the only issue? Do you have any thoughts on this one?

    2. It’s very strange that the Transparent Header has now somehow been selected, when PRIOR to the update, the coloured Logo showed, so either the styling was working before the update OR the header was not transparent on those pages but has somehow become transparent after the update?

    #1372658

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. We can’t really give you any answers to your questions unless we can look at the old site. If the problems are only on the home page, then I think it would be easier to simply fix what is broken, rather than digging through what went wrong. Knowing what went wrong is not really important in my opinion, since the problem would need fixing anyway.

    I would recommend that you update on a staging site first in the future, that way you would avoid having problems like these on your production site.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1372728

    Ok, please see staging site details below.

    Please let me know what you think has happened with the update to break the home page.

    Please let me know if the info below is not sufficient for you to provide that support.

    Thanks in advance

    Please NOTE: The staging site has NOT been updated to PHP 8 and is running an older version of Enfold (4.5.7) as per what was working on the site before updating Enfold. You’ll see that the home page loads as expected now…..
