    Yeet suggest us to open this Topic,

    We want to update the Enfold theme to the latest version in our site.

    We tried uploading the new version of the theme through FTP and when we preview the site we get a 500 Error.

    Now, we may update the theme through the Enfold’s theme settings but we want to make sure everything is going to be fine for us.

    Can you please suggest the safer next step to update our theme?

    Thanks for posting the details.

    I am now updating your theme via FTP. Then i will remove older version of the theme. Have modified any theme files there?

    Hi,

    I have updated the theme via FTP. However PHP version you are using is not compatible with current version of LayerSlider. Please contacting your hosting provider and ask them to upgrade PHP version. Enfold is compatible up to 7.1.x.

    After upgrading PHP version, you can activate updated version of Enfold, remove older version then go to Appearance > Editor > Functions.php file and remove following line from it

    add_theme_support('deactivate_layerslider');

    Thank you Yigit, I’ll ask our hosting to upgrade PHP and then we’ll activate the theme.

    Hello Yigit,
    Hosting support has updated the PHP version to 7, but now our site is not working. I cannot even access to the admin side.
    Could you please check it and let my know how can we solve this? I copy-paste the error we receive.

    Hello Victoria,

    Sure it is in this tread. I repaste here.

    Our clients have already brought it to our attention that our website is down. Is it possible to put a temporary banner up that reads that we are currently updating our website and will be up and running soon? How can we do that?

    You would need to re-upload the site through FTP.
    That will do fix your issues as seems you do have an old version

    Hi Basilis,

    We re-uploaded the theme through FTP.

    Apparently there’s a syntax error in wordpress and we can not enter de admin side to activate it.

    What can we do to solve this issue please?

    Our site is still down. So we implemented a coming soon page.

    Hi TLS_Financial,

    We need server url for FTP access. And you can turn off WordPress debug via FTP and might be able to login to dashboard.
