    Thanks Michael.
What version of php should I be running and where do I find it? How do I get the latest version?

Thank you for your help. I uninstalled Optimus but that didn’t help completely.

I don’t have blank pages anymore but things like the rev slider and tables are not working.

    I’m a bit confused.

    Hanna says I’m useless.

    Hi,

You can install this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ to check your php version. Please use PHP 7, I’d recommend to use PHP 7.0 or 7.1 because some plugins might not work with PHP 7.2 yet. Your host / server administrator should be able to change the php version for you.

    Best regards,
    Peter

    What Dude said.

There are servers out there running PHP 5.6 and earlier too. You have to be on a minimum of 5.6 for enfold, but 7.1 is best at this point, or so has been my experience.

Also, by uninstalling Optimus you are doing well nipping at the issue. That tells you that you are on the right track and that there is a conflict, or that that along with the PHP version is what is causing the issue. It could be any combination of things but you are on the right track.

Remember to backup after each success so you don’t have to redo any steps if something goes totally wrong. Its annoying to have to do, but trust me, its worth it if anything does go wrong. And in the mean time you have a dog that likes to play rugby to kill time with!

    Hi!

We’ve created a new fix which should handle the Envato api changes better. To fix it use the theme editor (Appearance > Editor) and edit Enfold. Go to enfold/framework/php/auto-updates/ and open the class-pixelentity-theme-update.php file. Clear the entire file (remove the code) and copy the entire code from here https://raw.githubusercontent.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/class-pixelentity-theme-update.php into the blank file. Afterwards save the file and the update should work.

You can also use ftp to update the file. Save the code from here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/KriesiMedia/enfold-library/master/temp_fixes/Enfold_4_4_1/class-pixelentity-theme-update.php to a file called class-pixelentity-theme-update.php. Then connect to your server via ftp, go to the directory wp-content/enfold/framework/php/auto-updates/ and overwrite the class-pixelentity-theme-update.php with the updated file you created before.

    Regards,
    Peter

    @Dude (Peter)

I’m getting the same update error as OP on my site mooreauctions.com.au:
An error occurred while updating Enfold: Download failed. A valid URL was not provided.

I’ve tried both of your fixes and neither have worked. Here are the messages after trying your most recent fix:

The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

This appears to be a Enfold theme issue and requires a new update with a fix.
Is the theme development team working to fix this?
If so, when can we expect the update to be distributed?

    #1015371

    Hi,

Yes there is a problem with Envato API, they have upgraded it and they have created bigger problems than any of us anticipated.
We do work around the clock to fix the issues. In the mean time, what Dude proposed is the best solution.

    Best regards,
    Basilis

    #1015574

    @basilis
    Thanks for the update

However @dude solution does not work for me – see my post September 24, 2018 at 2:31 am for full details

    #1016878

    Hi,

You may need to revert the modifications back and then upgrade the theme manually via FTP. You won’t be able to update automatically at the moment because of the imposed rate limit by the Envato API. We’ll let you know once the update is ready.

    // https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#update-via-ftp
    // https://kriesi.at/archives/the-complete-guide-to-updating-enfold

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    #1017015

    Ismael,

Can you elaborate more on the imposed rate limit from Envato? I know it won’t solve anything but I am curious.

    Thanks!
    Michael

    Hi MichaelAlbany,

Here is a thread for you:

    #1029321

For what it’s worth, I tried the Dude’s 2nd fix for the pixelentity file and it worked like a charm, updating 4.4.1 to 4.4.5. Thanks!

    #1029332

I’d like to update as well –
Beim Aktualisieren von Enfold ist ein Fehler aufgetreten: Download fehlgeschlagen. Es wurde keine gültige URL übermittelt.

Where can I download the latest version of the theme?
    Thanks

    Uli

    #1029436

    Hi Uli,

You can always download the latest version of the theme from your Themeforest account.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1033615

    Hmm…. This is odd.

I did the instructions that Dude stated on September 20th and that worked perfectly for one site (michaelalbany.com). When i do the exact same steps for neillrealtyllc.com it says its running 4.2 and is up to date.

    Suggestions?

Note; I do not have access to the FTP at this time. See one of my first notes in August or September.

    #1033853

    Hi MichaelAlbany,

Please try uploading the new version of the theme using this plugin, it has worked for most customers: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1034619

    .

    #1038733

Rikard, That has worked on one site so far. Fingers crossed for the next 23.

I must really love this theme. 28 licenses. Sheesh!

    #1038745

I too am having challenges with this last update.
In general, the only way I can successfully update theme is via ftp.
However, on one site- air-sur.com i am having issues still .
The site is not loading correctly.
I am at a loss. can you please help here?

    #1038780

Apologies in advance for all the capitals and bold, but I feel I need to emphasize the issues with what should really be a simple process.

In my opinion, advising people to update via FTP is BAD ADVICE.

Uploading the theme via FTP is SLOW and PRONE TO ERRORS – if only one file is missed in the upload then that can cause errors.

    @dianajuhn
, this is most likely your problem – a file(s) may have been missed in the FTP upload.

If you have cPanel access to your site, here is a QUICK, EASY and RELIABLE way to update your site:

    1. Download the “Installable WordPress file only” from your Themeforest account

    2. Login to your website’s cPanel – normally found at yourwebsite.com/cpanel

    3. Open File Manager and navigate to the \wp-content\themes\ directory of your website

    4. Rename the Enfold folder to Enfold-old

    5. Upload the ZIP file you downloaded in step 1 to \wp-content\themes\

    6. Extract the ZIP file you uploaded in step 5 to \wp-content\themes\

    7. Delete the ZIP file you uploaded in step 5

When you check your website’s WordPress admin you will be updated to v4.5.
The previous version of Enfold will still be there – you can delete this if you are happy that the update has worked okay.

    #1038783

So to johpg, what you’re saying is do an ftp upload using a cpanel GUI? That would work too.

FTP vs cpanel speed wise should be virtually the same. If you are experiencing incomplete transfers, file corruption, and/or slow upload speeds you may want to either check your ftp client configuration, or look into another ftp client.

Also, the plugin option mentioned above works very well.

    #1038785

cPanel includes an FTP application called File Manager.

This application allows you to extract an uploaded ZIP file.
AFAIK normal FTP does not allow you to do this.

With the cPanel method you upload ONE file (the ZIP file), then extract it.
With the FTP method you have to upload every file of the theme (100s, maybe 1000s of files?) individually – plenty of room for error with that no matter how good your FTP client is, or how fast your connection is.

Uploading one big file is way quicker than uploading 100s of individual files.
Unzipping the ZIP file takes literally a few seconds.

Other posters to the multiple threads about v4.5 upgrade issues have mentioned problems with the FTP. method.
The cPanel method has none of those issues.

It’s an option. I think it is the best one.

    #1039560

    Hi dianajuhn,

Sorry for the problem. The update to 4.5 has to be done manually unfortunately, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541

You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

Also please read this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/updating-to-enfold-4-5-and-validating-personal-token/

If you need help updating then please post a new thread and include admin login details in private.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1039562

    Hi,

    @johpg
, thanks for helping out, much appreciated :-)

What I usually do when customers need help updating is to rename the old theme folder to something like enfold_old, then activate a different theme, upload the new version and activate it. That usually takes less than 1 minute and the FTP is only needed to rename the old theme folder, and it’s very simple.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1083926

Hi. I have just uploaded the Enfold folder via FTP. It was too big to do it in WP. How do I now get this new theme to appear in my Themes section in WP so I can activate it?
    Thanks. Mark.

    #1084143

@marko7 – if you upload the unzipped Enfold folder to the wp-content/themes/ directory it should show when you go into appearance themes. If you already have a folder there named enfold and have enfold already selected as the used theme, rename it to enfold.old. This will bring the site down but only while the folder is uploading. Once uploaded the site should return to normal, as long as you are using a child theme.

    #1084229

For what its worth, I do what MichaelAlbany said but in a different manner.
Whether or not you’re using a child theme, I compress(zip) the existing Enfold folder and name the zip file with the version it is. For example, Enfold454.zip. Then via fTP I upload the new Enfold.zip, delete the Enfold folder and then extract the uploaded zip file. Done this way, you always have a copy of the Enfold version used in the past just in case you need to revert back for some reason.

    #1085015

    Hi,

Thanks for helping out @crtdude and @MichaelAlbany, did you try that out @marko7?

    Best regards,
    Rikard
