I recently moved to https and I’m unable to update my theme.
I get this error message: An error occurred while updating Enfold: Download failed. A valid URL was not provided.
Is this related to my recent change from http to https?
Thanks!
ErinJanuary 4, 2019 at 10:58 pm #1050116Hi Erin
No, the theme update error is not related to HTTPS at all.
If you are currently not using Enfold 4.5 or newer you need to update manually. I prefer (S)FTP and wrote a detailed guide about it.Please let me know if you need additional help.
Thanks and good luck

VinayFebruary 25, 2019 at 1:09 pm #1071264I haven’t been able to update the theme. The site is running the 4.2 version of Enfold. I realize I need to update the theme manually but where do I get the updated theme files to upload? Thanks!
February 25, 2019 at 11:18 pm #1071523Hi Erin
You can download the newest theme version directly from themeforest.net.
Afterwards you should be able to update it via FTP.Let me know if you need any assistance!
Cheers
MichaelFebruary 26, 2019 at 7:27 pm #1071921I tried updating the theme but I get this message: Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/infinity2016/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/includes/helper-post-format.php on line 213
Now my site won’t load.
February 27, 2019 at 9:20 am #1072210Hi,
Sorry for the problem. Please try to completely delete the theme folder via FTP, then upload the new version.

RikardFebruary 27, 2019 at 10:16 pm #1072418Does it have to be done via FTP or can I do it by accessing the cpanel and File Manager?
February 28, 2019 at 7:13 pm #1072703I tried updating another client’s site with the newest theme version by uploading the theme through File Manager and overwriting the files. Again, the site went down. Luckily I’d first downloaded the version of Enfold that was on the account and was able to restore the site by re-uploading the old version. I’d really like to update the theme on these website but why are they crashing when I do? Are you saying I should first delete the Enfold theme folder that’s in the File Manager, then install the newest version of Enfold? Will I lose any of the theme customizations?
Thanks.

Thank you for the detailed description on how to update the theme to v4.5. However I’m hesitant to upload the new Enfold files after deleting the old folder because when I tried doing that through my cpanel/File Manager, my site would not load. So I was unable to get into the WordPress dashboard to do step 9: “Sign in to your WordPress website again….” It seemed that the new theme breaks the site. I have at least a dozen client websites using the Enfold theme so I’m super nervous about how I’m going to fix this issue with all of them because it’s going to keep coming up until they are all updated. I’m practicing on my smallest client site right now hoping to figure it out. Any assistance is certainly appreciated. Thank you!March 1, 2019 at 11:27 pm #1073448Also having this issue.
Deleted folder VIA FTP, re installed.
At the “Activate” stage, it fails.
Please advise.
ThanksMarch 2, 2019 at 6:55 am #1073526Hi ESWEENEY113,
Some files have moved between the versions you are running and trying to update to, that is likely why your sites are crashing. Deleting the old version, then uploading the new one would likely work. You shouldn’t lose anything, but as with all updates you should make sure that you have backups of the site.
If you should need someone to take care of things like these for you in the future then I can recommend getting a WordPress maintenance plan.

RikardMarch 5, 2019 at 6:54 pm #1075024Thanks Rikard. I finally was able to update 3 client sites by deleting the old Enfold files and uploading the new version, then grabbing a token from Envato. I should be good to go now as other clients come in needing a theme update in the future.
Thanks for your help. This issue is resolved :)
