Hi – I’m running Enfold 4.5.4 and the site is working normally except that I can’t save changes to one particular page – when I use the Advanced Layout Builder to make edits on this page, followed by clicking Update and View Page, I can see that my edits have not been saved. All other pages appear to be behaving normally – in other words, I can edit all pages except this one using the Advanced Layout Editor, and in each case Update commits my changes. Please help – many thanks!

    Hey ashleyknow,
Thank you for your question, I believe that this is due to your outdated PHP version on your webhost server, I see you are using PHP v5.6.40 with WordPress v5.8.1 that requires a minimum of v7.4 you can see this on your site health panel linked below

Please ask your webhost to update the server, the next issue is that you are using Enfold v4.5.4 with WordPress v5.8.1 This version of Enfold should be updated, but the old Envato API is deprecated so you will need to go to your Theme Forest account and create a Envato Token to update, or you can download the latest version from your Theme Forest account and manually update though the WordPress theme panel.
You will want to update because the Block editor is conflicting with the Advanced Layout Builder in this version, as you see both are showing on your page, this should not be

you could disable the Block editor at Enfold Theme Options ▸ Select Your Editor but you could still have issues, I copied your page and tested it on my demo and it worked fine so I believe you need to follow these update steps, please update your server PHP first.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike –

Many thanks for your reply. I’ve now updated to PHP 7.4.25 and Enfold 4.8.7.1 but I’m still getting the same problem. The editor looks a lot better, with no obvious conflict, but any changes to elements on the page are not saved – if I click on the Update icon, the system reports that the page has been updated, but when I go to view the page I can see that it has not changed. Please advise what to try next!

    Hi,

I think the issue on that specific page is listed here: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/intro-to-layout-builder/#layout-builder-is-not-loading-properly (under this heading, Troubleshoot: Text Block element not loading)
I tried to find out which word is causing the issue however I can’t enable debug mode on your site, I tried to enable this via Appearance > Theme Editor.
Can you try to enable Debug Mode: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/intro-to-layout-builder/#debug-mode ?

    Best regards,
    Nikko

    Hi Nikko –

Thanks for the quick response. It doesn’t feel to me that the problem is with a text block not loading, as the old version of the page appears to load fully in both view and edit modes. It seems that the problem is with the edited version of the page not saving – I can also see that the text on the Update button doesn’t change from “Updating…” after clicking (although I do get the message that the changes have been saved, with the option to view the page), and if I reload the page and go to edit it again, I see a message that there is a newer autosaved version, suggesting that the previous editing session wasn’t correctly terminated. I’ve now enabled Debug Mode, so let me know what you can find out!

    Many thanks – Ashley

    Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the update. I created a test page and removed content which might be causing problems, and it seems to be the PDFs which you are linking to that are generating 403 forbidden errors on the server. It might be due to the spaces in the file names, could you try uploading one of your PDFs without any spaces in the file name, and try to link it on the page in private please?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Yes! That was the problem – in fact, after I’d renamed the files, I found that two of the objects with .pdf download links couldn’t even be edited to update the links (when I tried to edit the objects, the edit box was empty and the box itself was missing all the tabs apart from the first) and instead needed to be deleted and recreated. After I did that, everything worked normally. Many thanks for all your help on this – A.
