    hello,

I have started to manage a new website, which has an installed enfold theme 4.3. I’m not sure from where the theme was acquired, but I says “Enfold | Shared By VestaThemes.com”
There are no credentials (no Your Themeforest User Name, no Your Themeforest API Key)
can I buy it from themeforest and update it thru section Update your Theme from the WordPress Dashboard without any issues?
now current Enfold Theme Version Number is 4.3; WordPress 5.4 version.

    thank you,
    Paul

    Hey paul,

Yes, you can purchase the license and update the theme. If the update through the dashboard does not work, please get back to us and we will help you.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,

Please refer to this post – https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/#how-to-generate-a-envato-personal-token.

If you have any theme related questions or issues, you can register to our support forum here – https://kriesi.at/support/register/ then start new threads under Enfold sub forum :)

Edit: If you have not updated the theme to the latest version yet, please do so via FTP – https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-update/#update-via-ftp. Envato has updated their API and we have implemented those changes in Enfold 4.5. Any version older than that, requires a manual update before enabling auto update feature.

    Cheers!

So should I update thru dashboard or ftp? Your answers are misleading.
First you said I can update thru dashboard, now it turns out I cant? because its an old version 4.3?
update thru ftp guide is also misleading: step 3 says “Delete the enfold theme folder.” and video shows the guy just copied enfold folder with overwrite option. so which is the correct?
I don’t want to lose all my pages with information and create them from scratch.

    Hey,

You are currently using version 4.3, you would not be able to update the theme using Personal Token. You would need to update it via FTP.
You can alternatively use a plugin to update from WordPress dashboard. More details can be found here – https://kriesi.at/support/topic/updating-to-enfold-4-5-and-validating-personal-token/

Both are correct. We recommended to delete the theme because some users merged the folders instead of overwriting them which caused PHP errors :)

I have updated very old versions of Enfold on users site many times and had no issues whatsoever. I cannot promise that for your website as you are currently using a pirated copy of our theme. For the same reason, I am not able to offer you to update your theme myself.

I would recommend you to create a testing environment and update the theme there first to see if anything breaks :)

    Regards,
    Yigit
