still having issue with ie8 layer slider first image is distorted

windows xp with ie8
I thought I had resolved this in dev. but I have updated my live published website http://gemcovalve.com I am using the most current theme, plugins and wp. In ie8 – when i open the website or refresh on home page the first image in the layer slider is very distorted (it really looks bad). Plus some icons such as the social media icons at top do not appear unless I hover over them – then they show up.
