Hello,
upon one year of perfect run, my start site at bluegrass.de is permanently redirected to my (individualized) 404 error site. I have tried to reset permalinks, even built a new start site. No effect but redirection to 404. I have a bilingual site employing polylang. If I go to the English version, all is shown. I have WordPress 5.5 and cannot upgrade as my essential calendar plugin has not been updated to newer versions. Anyway, ecerything worked fine until “suddenly” the permanent error of redirection to 404 appeared.Any help on how I could fix this is appreciated.
kind regards

Could you try updating the theme to the latest version (5.4) to see if that helps please? https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update.

RikardJanuary 26, 2023 at 1:43 pm #1395379Hi Rikard,
It appears that I could solve the 404 redirection of the start page. I realized that I need to define the start page in two different areas:
(Design => Customizer => Startseiten Einstellungen (starting page settings) and also under Enfold Theme Optionen => Startseiten Einstellungen (starting page settings). While I do not know when or how this changed, I could now fix it, and hope it will remain so. So, I would rather not update the theme for the time beeing on this site, but only use the 5.4 on another site, which I currently develop to avoid any risk of another problem. Still, would it be possible to go back to the older 4.8 version by again overwriting a 5.4 installation?
thank you for your feedback and help anyway.
kind regards

Great, I’m glad that you found a solution. If you want to switch between different theme versions, then you could upload the new version in a separate folder via FTP.

Thanks for your patience and the link to your site, I have tried to recreate this issue but was unable to, below is my test page that is password protected with the password, as you will see there is no error loading, and once you log in you are not redirected.
Please try disabling all of your plugins and caching and then clear your browser cache. Then enable your plugins one at a time and test your site, clearing your browser cache after each test until you find the one or combination of plugins causing this to identify this cause.Best regards,

I tested your site will my Android mobile and a Mac with Safari, then with Chrome & Firefox on Windows, all worked for me.
I don’t have an iPhone or iPad to test with.
I still see the error message at the top of the screen, but when I disable all of your plugins the error message doesn’t show, please try disabling all of your plugins and caching and then clear your browser cache. Then enable your plugins one at a time and test your site, clearing your browser cache after each test until you find the one or combination of plugins causing this error message.
Perhaps the error message and the password protected page redirect are two different errors?Best regards,

Glad to hear that you found the cause for the error message.
The directory /wp-content/cache/ is typically only created by plugins, it is not a default WordPress directory. If you didn’t already have a caching plugin there is no need to add one. More importantly is clearing your browser cache, Please note that with iPads & iPhones can be hard to clear the cache, often you need to also clear the history to fully purge the cache, following these steps for Safari and note Step 4 where you will Clear the History.Best regards,
