if i don’t create a child theme when i’m finished with the web site creation … IF I UPDATE THE THEME IN THE FUTURE … is there a chance that some of my customizations to the theme will no longer work?

is this why people make a child theme?

how do i go about making an exact copy of my site … then using it as a child theme?

    thanks!

    Hey Chris,

We recommend using a child theme especially if you are planning to make changes on theme files which will be overwritten when you update the theme. To avoid that, you can use a child theme – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/using-a-child-theme/ and move modified files to your child theme – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/add-new-or-replace-advanced-layout-builder-elements-from-child-theme/

thanks! which theme files will be overwritten when i update? css? functions.php? search? etc?

if they’ll be overwritten … i’m going to be in trouble!

i’ll need to convert my main theme to a child theme.

    thanks!

    Hi,

Your Quick CSS and Enfold options won’t be overwritten, but the functions.php and other php and css files will be overwritten. It would be best if you start using a child theme by following the links that Yigit gave.

    Cheers!

    Hey,

I know Texas is a large place but if you are in a flood affected are, stay safe.
Hope you are well and the hurricane has missed you.

    hey there, tj! thanks!

it has been crazy around here. thankfully, my area (san antonio) wasn’t really hit. a lot of wind and rain … but no flooding. mostly the coastal cities.

    appreciate the note, my friend!

    blessings,
