    Hi,

I am new to the WordPress and Enfold.

Please can you check my website if I have setup the Child Theme Correctly?

Do I import the demo data as normal but within child theme? (I am going to import Gym Demo Theme)
Do I need to import any files from the main theme folders to child theme? Like header, function etc. or the original two files existed in the child theme are correct.

    Your help will be appreciated.

Have I asked a too difficult question :). I was told by friend of mine that the enfold support response is very quick. It’s been 8 hours and I haven’t heard anything back.

Please can someone have a look at my request.

    Hi,

You can import the demo while your child theme is active, the only role of a child theme is to override the parent. I couldn’t check it though since the account you provided doesn’t have admin rights.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard,

Thank you for your reply. I have changed the user rights and now you can check if I have done it done it right.

Does this mean that if I am making a change in function.php I need to do it child theme not in the parent theme?

Do I need to copy all the files from parent theme to child theme using FTP file transfer?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

Thank you for using our theme.

If you started from a clean WP installation the steps to set up Enfold Child is easy:

    • Copy the files of Enfold (directory enfold) in the WP themes directory wp-content\themes
    • Copy the files of Enfold Child (directory enfold-child) in the WP themes directory wp-content\themes
    • Goto WP Dashboard -> Appearance -> Themes and activate Enfold Child

Do not copy any files from Enfold to Enfold Child – Enfold child uses Enfold in background and behaves exactly like the parent theme.

If you make any changes only use the files in Enfold child, means:

    • add changes to functions.php in the child theme folder only
    • add changes to style.css in the child theme folder only

Do not touch anything in the parent theme folder !!

This means, you can update the parent theme at any time and all your changes will be kept – never update the child theme or your changes will be lost.

All theme options settings are linked to the child theme and are the same as with the parent theme.

Hope, this makes things more clear.

    Best regards,
    Günter
