    Hi there,

the Google PageSpeed (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?hl=de&url=mainfilm.tv) from our site is really bad. In Mobile only 3 from 100 points! What can we do?

    best regards

    Hey Mainfilmtv,

Did you read this blog post? I would suggest that you don’t focus too much on Google PSI, try to use Pingdom or GTmetrix instead, as those tests focus more on the actual speed of the site.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Yeah sure, but a SpeedScore like this is a catastrophe.

Why is the site 15MB big? The site is loading a lot from Youtube? Why? Screenshot: https://ibb.co/ZJY0ZjR

    Hi,

Yes, it seems like Youtube is loading 15mb on the front page. Please see private. Maybe you could look at making your videos smaller and/or shorter?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Yes, but why is he loading so much, when no video is playing?

I am having a similar problem. I thought the whole point of posting a YouTube link was that it would keep the page size small (and less load on the server). It seems the recommendation for Enfold is to avoid video!? For my site; load time of 31secs and page size 15mb!
Also seems to be a massive request size – see in private (one example).
Lastly i’m told to ‘leverage browser caching’ when i am…using W3 Total cache – how can i resolve this?

    Many thanks

    Faye

    Hi Mainfilmtv,

I’m not sure to be honest with you, does it go away if you remove the videos? I’m guessing that the videos do some pre-loading in order to play straight away when being interacted with.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Faye,

Did you try to reduce the size of your video? Did you try to load it locally from your site?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard

The video is an MP4, we followed the ‘PremiumPro’ guidelines for how to export video for web use.

    The resulting video is 55Mb

How small do you think it should be…without loss of quality?

    Regards

I think the problem is the “Slider”-Element from Enfold. We are using this element to play the videos and maybe they load a lot of data.

We also get a lot of errors:

Inserting video into a “slider” is a selling feature of the theme. If there are known problems it would be useful to have guidance for use – video size to use, don’t set to autoplay….?

    Hi,

Did you install a video plugin or add a custom video snippet? Those errors are generated by a custom video player. Also, the site is not fully optimized yet. You should start by installing a cache plugin, merge the files and compress the images.

You should follow the recommendations in the page speed insight tool.

    Hi Ismael

I am only using the Enfold theme for video – nothing else

I have the W3 Total cache installed already

I have been using these tools, that’s how i am aware of the video issue!

    Many thanks

    Hi,

Are you following the tool’s recommendations? Most of the recommendations are not directly related to the videos. Let’s try to tackle them one at a time.

1-2.) Eliminate render-blocking resources & Defer unused CSS- Enable the theme’s Performance > File Compression settings to merge the scripts and stylesheets, allowing the site to render faster by combining the files into a single request.

3.) Reduce server response times (TTFB) – Is the site running on a shared server or hosting plan? You may need to consider upgrading that plan or move to a faster server.

4.) Minify CSS & Minify – The file compression should take care of this.

5.) Avoid an excessive DOM size – This occurs when there’s a lot of content in the page than is necessary. You should consider removing some of the content in the home page and distributing them to other areas or pages in the site.

There are other recommendations from the tool that you can take advantage of to improve the site speed. Unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of support. We recommend that you read the whole article or research more about site optimization.
