Open Sans font looks condensed

I downloaded the font Open Sans from Google Fonts. I imported it and selected it in Enfold screen ‘fonts’. The downloaded file from Google fonts contains: ‘OpenSans-Italic-VariableFont_wdth,wght.ttf’ and ‘OpenSans-VariableFont_wdth,wght.ttf’.
The problem is it looks condensed on the site.
When I select the font ‘Open Sans’ from the list in ‘fonts’ the problem does not occur. But I want to load fonts locally. What is wrong? Or what can I do to fix it?
