Hi, this is not really a support request in the traditional sense. Just to set the scene, we are a research institute in a bigger university in Italy, so getting things done and approved is a mess.

We’ve been happily using Enfold for some landing-page micro-sites, and wanted to use it for our main web site, a fairly standard mix of events, publications and regular posts and pages. I liked the fact that the flexibility meant we could quickly prototype a page, test it, and then adjust the design without having to dive into the code.

But the institute’s ‘webmasters’ have blocked this by threatening to not provide any support (or access to the server). As a point of reference, they suggest we use YOOTheme’s Warp framework, which is quite old and clunky in my opinion.

Their objections are that Enfold allows too much custom content/shortcodes, and migrating content if the theme is no longer supported/we change our minds will be very time consuming (Which is still true for the Warp framework by YOOTheme, as far as I know). They are also worried that the code can cause conflicts with plugins, etc, and they will not be familiar enough to do anything to help. (Essentially, they’re happy to waste our time so long as they don’t get shouted at by anyone for unexpected downtime or maintenance work.)

So I thought I’d post their feedback back to you, and see if you have any thoughts on the merits of their complaints.

    Hi fsr-eui!

That is always an issue between teams, to be honest with you.
I would love to help you out, and my colleagues also, but we only can tell you that:

    1. We are one of the top 3 themes on themeforest, for more than 2 years now. That is not done by a mistake.
    2. We release updates before any WordPress update and we take care of all the issues
    3. We do support most of the major plugins, and we are compatibile with plugins for events etc.
Even if you use any plugin, that has issues, when we get a solution from a plugin author ( if it is not easy for us to solve ), we will make sure to include on a next update most possible. if we do not, there are tons of plugins doing the same thing almost.
    4. Yes, we do have a complex shortcode system. But also, we do have the option to create almost any type of design. So even if you want to change the visual, you can keep building with enfold.

We are here, and nowhere to go any time soon.

Please let me know if I can help with any other way! ( Hey, it is Saturday night, and we are still supporting, that means something right? ;-) )

    Regards,
    Basilis

HI Basilis, thank you for your reply (I’m Janto, by the way).

Yes, the support Enfold provides, both in terms of quality and response time, is top-notch, and some investigation has led me to discover that YOOtheme has, coincidentally, a very bad reputation here! I am also more and more disturbed by what I read about the Warp framework, which was initially developed for Joomla and does some very non-standard things in WP, so I will take your response and what I found out to the next meeting. Of course, politics is an issue here.

I am working on another site which is very complex – an online course platform with membership levels, badging, forums and Buddypress, all running fine inside Enfold with 20 plugins active! It took me 20 minutes to design a dashboard using Avia for an online simulation as part of one course.

    Cheers, Janto

    Hi!

The warp framework looks cool reliable and the themes they offer are first class but the framework doesn’t have an advance builder by default which is huge plus in favor of Enfold. :)

    Ismael

Hi Ismael, thanks for the response. You’re kinder than I am. Anyway, after a security issue with un-maintained sites on a shared internal server, I’m pushing hard for going external.

We also discovered that how Enfold treats the Event Calendar, which is first rate IMO with the left-hand sidebar for key details,is going to have to be manually rebuilt in Warp. At least we can look at your code for quick implementation guidelines (without slavishly copying).

Feel free to mark this as closed.
