    Hello all
My issue is really big and complicated. One month ago I took over a website, for updating it, making changes etc etc. The very first problem was that the previous admin never gave admin access to my client -only editor- and once my client asked for admin access so we to start making changes, not only denied them they send us the whole website so to transfer it wherever we wanted. Fortunately I prefer hostgator to host all my websites which once we uploaded the files, they fixed the main issue and instantly my client and I have the admin access.
The previous company had never never ever updated enfold and wordpress. At this moment I’m writing at you the website has 3.9.8 wordpress and enfold is at version 2.7. I tried to contact them again, because they have bought it and provide me the updates, so to be able to update it and then upgrade to wordpress 5.1. They denied it.
I know and you can cross check it that the theme is bought from my client and is not illegal uploaded and used from the previous company. Once more, unfortunately, they deny to send us any invoices associated with the purchase, so we don’t even have the license number and/or the date of purchase.

What I would like from you is: to give me a solution in that: how to access or send me the updates, so to upgrade the website of my client to a paid theme, we are not asking something illegal, we just need access to theme that we have bought, so to be able to update, whenever you update.
The 2.7 version is so outdated that is not even mobile friendly. Some plugins in the last week stopped working and I am sure in the next days the problem will be bigger. Not to say that I don’t dare to update to 5.1wp.
Below in the private content, I have written to you the website and all the details you need.

I hope you can help me.
    My warmest regards
    Sonia

    Hey Sonia,

Sorry for your problem, but we can’t give out licenses like that unfortunately. If the person or company who bought the license are not willing to share the details with you then I think the easiest way would be to purchase another license, otherwise you will have this problem every time you want to update.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard

Thank you so much for the answer. I understand your side completely. Yes unfortunately they don’t give us OUR license. Anyway, can I ask one more thing? If we buy new license from themeforest – meaning also the latest version of the theme- can I update it automatically, without any issues? Or I must update it firstly to all the previous versions and eventually to the last one?

    Hi Sonia,

Thanks for the feedback and I’m sorry for your situation. A lot of customers do this mistake unfortunately, letting a developer or designer get the license for them and then they don’t have control over it.

If you buy a new license then I would recommend that you update on a staging version of the site first since the version you are running now is very old, it would be impossible to say what could go wrong during the update. If you should have any problems then we can help you out on the support forum.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Thank you once more for the super fast reply Rikard. Last questions, regarding the staging: because I already use themeforest years now and the previous versions of any theme are never available, once a new is released. For Enfold, once we buy the license will you provide us with the versions of 2.7 and after? Should we buy the license direct from you, so to be able to access and the previous and the new one? What do you advise us?
    My warmest thank you R.

    Hey,

    Thanks for contacting us!

We sell Enfold exclusively on ThemeForest therefore we are not able to sell/distribute the theme directly. You can purchase Enfold here – https://themeforest.net/item/enfold-responsive-multipurpose-theme/4519990?ref=Kriesi

I just checked and can confirm that we have Enfold 2.7 in our repository and can gladly share it with you. We might not be able to provide you a copy of each version after that however version 2.7 we can :)

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,
    Yigit

    Hello Yigit.
Perfect thank you for the reply :-D
2.7 already have it and running in the website. I need the after versions, so to upgrade gradually till the latest version – if you read my initial post you will understand completely the issue-.

    Hi Sonia,

Thanks for the update. I don’t think there’s any real point in updating gradually, I think the best course of action would be to update directly to the latest version. The update will have to be done manually though, I can tell you that already. I would strongly advice you upgrade on a staging site before updating your production site.

If you still need a version between the one you are running now and the latest version, then we can provide you with that as well.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hello Rikard, I just tried to update it through the theme engine. I got a lot of errors. I’m pasting them in the private content below. Tell me if now I need to make an account here, so to help me with all those issues. Yes we bought a license from TF.

    Hi,

The update to 4.5.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541

You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the theme folder, then install the new one after that. Please make sure to have backups of the site before updating.

Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/

    Best regards,
    Rikard
