Hi, I was hoping someone can help me with this. I have been getting a ton of spam on my site lately. I was told to try the google recapthca plugin. The plugin works, but I put it on the page with the enfold contact form and users can submit their message without filling out the recaptcha. Any idea?

    Hey robsdesigns,

    Please follow through this thread:

Hi Jordan, for some reason it would not work for me, so I removed the codes.

Are you able to log in and look? I put the login info on the private content.

Just so you are aware. I had to deactivate the Google Recaptcha because it was saying login incorrect on the pages when I tried to login (even though the recaptcha was not showing.

    Hi,
A custom recaptcha plugin was created by @ismael, please remove the other code and plugin and use this one instead
Then in the enfold theme options under “Google services” you will find the options:
    2019-01-19-113224
You can get your site & secret keys here
Then the send button will be hidden by recaptcha:

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi guys,

I installed what Ismael said here:
    https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-contact-form-and-spam/
I went to github, downloaded the file installed it and I am still getting so much spam. (Is the drop box link you put different than the github?) At least 50 messages of spam a day through the contact form.

Mike, can you please take a look at my site? I included the login info in the private part below. I am using WP 5.0.3 with PHP 7.0.33

    Hi,
Thank you for the login, I tested your recaptcha and it worked correctly without errors, but the issue is that you are still getting spam, which I believe is because recaptcha can be bypassed easily now. Please search on Google “bypass recaptcha” or similar and you will find videos and blackhat forums describing how to do so.
I have recommend to a couple of other people to try using the Contact Form 7 with the Honeypot addon instead and they have said they are spam free.
I believe you find this worth the effort of creating a new contact form, but ensure to disable the recaptcha plugin so there won’t be a conflict.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I installed contact form 7 with honeypot and the spam still persists.

Any idea of what I should do next?

Would it help it I starting clocking countries like Ukraine from my website? Some of the IP addresses are from there.

    Hi,
I believe that in your case you will need to block the offending IP’s at the country level because individual IP’s will not help because they will just change their IP addresses. I assume that you can find the IP’s in your server log in your cPanel, or in Google Analytics, then you can check them on a site like geoiptool.com and then if you are going to block the country with your .htaccess file, you can get the correct code from: https://www.ip2location.com/free/visitor-blocker – you will want to know which version of Apache your server is using. These lists are huge, but complete.
    ip-block
Another approach is to use a plugin like one of these: 13 Best WordPress Plugins for Blocking Countries
Please note that if you block a few countries it may add a couple of seconds to your load time, but if you put these in place for a couple of weeks the attackers will probably give up and remove you from their list, then you can try tracking and blocking individual IP’s with a plugin such as Banhammer
I would recommend still using contact form 7 with the honeypot alone with the IP block.

    Best regards,
    Mike

Thanks Mike. I just added a quiz question on contact 7. That seems to do the trick with honeypot.

    Thanks for your help!
