We are getting the following error while trying to add new posts and pages.

Deprecated: Function create_function() is deprecated in /home/petrieme/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/wp/widgets.php on line 4

This is specific to the theme alone and disabling the theme fixes the issue.

It looks like the slider is causing the issue, and the slider is very out of date. Checking the documentation for the slider your version appears to have been bundled with the theme. According to enfold the updates must be provided by the theme provider. Is the plugin being updated by themeforest??

    Hi shannonjhester,

Thanks for giving us the login link as well as admin access.
It seems you are using an outdated version of Enfold (3.5.4) which is incompatible with the latest version of WordPress.
Please update it to the latest version, you can follow the steps below:

    Make a backup:
    – Site Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-wordpress-site/
    – Theme Settings Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-theme-settings/

    Update Enfold Theme
Option 1: Use Envato Market to update your site
    – link: https://envato.com/market-plugin/

    Option 2: Update manually
    1. Login to ThemeForest and download the Enfold theme, right-click over the downloaded zip file and extract/unzip it.
    2. It should generate a new folder, open it and look for the enfold folder
    3. Right-click the enfold folder then zip it, here’s a tutorial on how to create a zip file in windows: https://www.howtogeek.com/668409/how-to-zip-and-unzip-files-on-windows-10/ (this should create enfold.zip
    4. Log in to WordPress as and Admin.
    5. Install and activate a maintenance plugin and put your site in Maintenance mode.
    6. Go to Appearance > Themes, switch to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty then delete Enfold.
    7. Click on the ADD NEW button.
    8. Click on the UPLOAD THEME button.
    9. Click BROWSE and choose enfold.zip file
    10. Click the INSTALL NOW button and switch to Enfold or your child theme.
    11. Remove the maintenance mode then deactivate and remove the maintenance plugin.

Register the theme by following the instructions in https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Once this is done, the next time you update, you’ll only need to go to Enfold > Theme Updates and click on the Update button.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

    Hi Jobcosupply,

Please try to install and configure this plugin, to see if the update shows up after that: https://envato.com/market-plugin/

    Best regards,
    Rikard

I installed the envato plugin, and I checked the box for the plugin, and selected enable auto updates, but it still shows disable auto updates, and when I manually check updates for Enfold it says the website is up to date, but we are version 4.5.4.

The Envato-Market plugin would not update it, but I think it might be because I didn’t create another token. I deleted the Enfold theme, and installed the latest Enfold revision download. I got a new security token for Enfold and the Envato-Market plugin. It will not change/update the “enable auto updates” status in the WordPress plugin section, when you look up the Envato-Market plugin—should that change to “Auto-updates enabled?”

Also the layer slider plugin always show this in the WP plugin section, should I go through the authorization?

    Auto-updates disabled
You need to authorize this site in order to get upgrades or support for this plugin. Purchase a license or enter an existing purchase code.

This is the second time that the Enfold theme has done this where it wouldn’t auto-update, but it would say it had the latest update. Eventually, the website stopped working. I think the last time your support department uploaded the latest Enfold revision for me. Is there some way to avoid this in the future, or did installing the Envato-Market plugin permanently fix the issue?

    Hey @jobcosupply,

1- I checked your website and it seems like updating the theme to the latest version fixed the issue.

2- Bundled version of Enfold does not include auto updates and premium features of LayerSlider however we include the updated version of LayerSlider in Enfold updates. If you would like to use premium features, you would need to purchase a LayerSlider license.

3- The issue is actually between your and Envato servers. Another user who was having the same issue contacted their hosting provider and replied:

our hoster has updated the Linux distribution of the server.
The cause of the problem was probably the incompatibilities of the versions of OpenSSL with cURL.

Now the token API works :-)

Unfortunately, I am not sure if that will solve the issue for you as well but could you please contact your hosting provider and ask if that could be the case?

    Best regards,
    Yigit
