Hello,
we run our webiste on enfold for few years.
Few days ago we experienced issues we can not solve. There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.
if we enter wesite via recovery mode theres a message:
“Error: This theme failed to load properly and was paused within the admin backend.”After we made backup recovery same message appears.
As we could not get the support without purchase code (developer bought the theme) we bought theme now again than uploaded manualy new relese and there is still no change.

July 19, 2021 at 6:23 am #1310684Hey navisdigital,
Thank you for the inquiry.
Based on the error above, it looks like the site still contains an older version of the theme (enfold_18-11-18), or the older theme is still activated.
wp-content/themes/enfold_18-11-18/functions-enfold.php on line 313
Please delete the old version of the theme or move it outside the themes folder, upload the latest version of the theme, then activate it. You do not have to activate it again if there is a child theme.
Best regards,

July 20, 2021 at 5:07 am #1310809Hi,
Thanks for the update. The active theme on your site still seems to be very old (3.1.5), could you try updating to the latest version (4.8.3) to see if that helps please?
The update to 4.8.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
If you need further help, then please provide us with admin WordPress login details in private.
Best regards,
RikardNovember 3, 2021 at 11:43 am #1327609Hello,
I keep getting the same error as the person who made the topic, yet I’ve got this occurance on several client websites.
I’ve done as said in the posts above and even bought the latest version on themeforest.I’ve gotten the lastest version of Enfold.
I’ve removed the old version and uploaded the new version.
I’ve even reinstalled WordPress completly and moved the old files to a new directory just to make sure it had nothing to do with the old files itself.Yet the error still occurs.
In the database it still directs to version 4.2.3.
Although I doubt that has anything to do with the entire theme not even wanting to load.
As right now, when I’ve uploaded the theme through our file manager, it just drops out again and shows me the error underneath the themes on
https://www.gentsandcrooks.nl/wp-admin/themes.phpCould you please help as I’m quite lost with what to do.

November 3, 2021 at 5:07 pm #1327666Hi 3DYNAMISCHVOF,
I can’t login to your site because of the error message, but it looks like you are running the latest version of the theme. Did you try deactivating all plugin by renaming the plugin folder via FTP? If you are running a child theme, then you can use the same method for disabling that, and the parent theme as well if it should be necessary.
Best regards,
RikardNovember 3, 2021 at 5:21 pm #1327668Hello Rikard,
I’ve disabled the theme again and the site should be accesible now (atleast doesn’t show an error). \
All the plugins were already disabled, apart from the maintenance plug-in.The recovery link I provided in the private data message, did however allow entry, which helped me with disabling these issues.
Either way, if I try to even upload the enfold theme through wordpress, it simply results in handing me the same issue. The same happens when you’d drop the theme through the filemanager.I’ve set the theme editor within wordpress open, so if you’d want to shift through the code or try stuff through there, you’d be able to.
At this moment the site runs the Twenty Nineteen Theme of wordpress.November 4, 2021 at 5:28 am #1327721Hi,
Thanks for the update. Could you share FTP login details with us as well, so that we can try to upload a fresh copy of the theme for you? Also, would it be ok if we tried to activate it after upload?
Best regards,
RikardNovember 4, 2021 at 12:11 pm #1327763Hello, sorry for the late reply. I did manage to actually fix the issues on all 5 websites just now.
The main issue was regarding the PHP 8.0 version. The moment I rolled the PHP version back to 7.4 3/5 sites started working again and I could actually install the new enfold version.
After that I disabled the Enfold theme on gentsandcrooks.nl & dietistlotjevaes.nl, then activated a default wordpress theme and moved the enfold themes to a diffrent folder. After that wordpress somehow still saw the Enfold themes and I could activate them again, which moved themselves back to the actual theme folder and got it fixed.Again thanks for the assistance,
November 4, 2021 at 4:47 pm #1327824Hi 3DYNAMISCHVOF,
Great, I’m glad that you found a solution to your problem. Which version of PHP 8 were you running on your sites? If you could share server error logs with us, then we might be able to avoid problems like these in future updates.
Best regards,
RikardNovember 5, 2021 at 10:36 am #1327922Hello,
I’ve copied the files of one of our error websites (back when it still had an error) to a test domain of ours.
It gives the following error:Error on the older version:
Fatal error: Unparenthesized
a ? b : c ? d : eis not supported. Use either
(a ? b : c) ? d : eor
a ? b : (c ? d : e)in /customers/8/3/c/3d-licious.com/httpd.www/wp-content/themes/enfold/functions-enfold.php on line 323
Error with the new version on the login screen:
Fatal error: Uncaught ValueError: Unknown format specifier "S" in /customers/8/3/c/3d-licious.com/httpd.www/wp-content/themes/enfold/includes/admin/option_tabs/avia_blog.php:311 Stack trace: #0 /customers/8/3/c/3d-licious.com/httpd.www/wp-content/themes/enfold/includes/admin/option_tabs/avia_blog.php(311): sprintf('Als u links naa...', '
PHP version is 8.0.12
The hosting couldn’t provide me with detailed server error logs, thus why I have to do it this way. I hope it helps.
