    Dear Enfold,

We received some error logs and noticed an issue in our backend regarding the widgets, which are not showing and therefore are not manageable anymore. See the attached screenshot.

The error seems to refer to an inactive sidebar for a Mailchimp form. But because of the issue on live, we are not able to remove the sidebar and see if that fixes the issue. Also good to know is that we don’t use Mailchimp anymore, so perhaps it’s looking for code that’s not there.

Do you know how we can fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Volgspot,
Thanks for your patience, are you using a Mailchimp form in your sidebar, or were you using a third party Mailchimp form plugin before this occured?
Have you recently updated your PHP from v7.4 to v8?
If so try comparing your webhost PHP extensions for PHP 7.4 & 8.0 that same extension may not be enabled by default for your new PHP version causing the error, here is an example of the enabled extensions for PHP v8 on my site:
    php_v8.jpeg
If you can’t find a difference try rolling back to v7.4 to rule out this as a cause.
If this doesn’t help and you have tried also disabling all of your plugins, please include an admin login in the Private Content area so we can examine.

    Best regards,
    Mike

Hi Mike, thanks a lot for your thoughts on this. We are still investigating the issue.
An interesting new find is that a freshly created staging from the live environment does not have the issue.
While the PHP versions of staging and live are the same. So I asked our development party to investigate this further.

If we still need your help we will send you admin credentials.

    Keep you posted!

Thanks for the update, we’ll keep this thread open for you.

Hi Rikard, thanks for keeping the thread open.

Our developers compared the live to the staging environment and concluded it must be happening because the staging is using PHP7.4 and the live site is using PHP8.2. Therefore they asked me to reach out to you again.

They tried deactivating all plugins, and switching to the parent theme but still, the widgets are not showing up. See https://tinyurl.com/2cojkkx9. Here is the screenshot of the server information in case needed https://gfx.cx/images/2024/04/02/KNny4.png.

Do you have any idea how this can be fixed?

Thanks in advance for looking into this.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. Could you include admin login details in private to where we can see the actual problem please?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hi Rikard, thanks for your reply, I added urls and credentials in the private content.

    To summarise:
LIVE: PHP version 8.2: widgets are not showing
STAGING: PHP version 7.4: widgets are showing but not clickable.

Hope you are able to find out how to fix this. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

Thanks for that. Everything looks normal on my end on the staging site, but I do see that the widget areas are missing on the live site. Would you be able to have the exact same environment on staging as on live? If not, then we would have to test things on the live site. I don’t think that the PHP version is the problem, since we haven’t seen this problem on any of our test sites running the same PHP version, and no other users have reported this problem either.

    Hi Rikard,

The strange thing is that the environments are actually similar. The staging environment no. 43 is a relatively fresh copy of the live environment. Or to be precise: the moment I created the staging environment the widgets showed up here. BUT these are not clickable, as mentioned before. Can you confirm this?

    Perhaps this helps:
On a previous staging, with the main difference that a previous version of Enfold (5.6.11) is installed, the widgets work as they should. I will add the url to the private content.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. The widgets seems to be working as expected on my end on the staging site 42. I wanted to check the 43 installation as well, but I’m not getting a QR to use for Authenticator anymore, so I couldn’t login.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hi Rikard, thanks for informing me. I reset your 2-factor authentication, you should see the QR again.

    Hi,

I’m still not getting the QR code on the 43 installation unfortunately, maybe you could turn that off for a bit until we have checked it?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1439590

Good idea, I turned it off for both staging environments. You should be able to login without 2FA now.

    Hi,

Thanks for that. I can’t see any problems on the 43 installation either, the widgets seem to be editable and moveable as well. The problem with both of your staging sites is that the problem on the live site can’t be reproduced, so I’m not sure that they are very useful in that state. Maybe you could try setting up a new one which is a direct copy with the same server environment and PHP version? Otherwise I think you will have to do testing on the live site unfortunately.

    Hi Rikard,

We found something: When deactivating the Events Calendar plugin the widgets appear again and can be edited. So it’s obvious that this plugin is causing the issue. Hopefully we are able to fix it now, but since it’s clearly not related to the Enfold version this thread can be closed.

Thank you so much for your time and effort!

Thanks for the update, I’m glad to hear that you managed to find the problem. We’ll close this thread for now then, please open a new thread if you should have any further questions or problems.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
