GuestHi, One of our customers has asked me to upgrade there website so that it will run on our PHP7 platforms. I have upgraded WordPress and all the plugins but the theme is Enfold 1.3.1 and that doesn’t seem to be compatible with PHP7.
How can I upgrade it for them ?
April 12, 2019 at 9:25 am #1089981Hey Glen Eustace,
Sorry for the problem. The update to 4.5.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please delete the old version of the theme, then upload the new one. Make sure that you have backups of the site before you start updating.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
You can access the theme files in your Themeforest account.
Best regards,

GuestUnfortunately I am not the developer, I am only the hosting provider so I didn’t make the original purchase nor did the site’s owner as the site was built by a third party many years ago.
April 13, 2019 at 3:16 am #1090236Hi,
Please try updating Enfold to v4.5.5, your version 1.3.1 is quite old and may not be compatible with PHP v7

GuestThat is what I am trying to do but I need to get a copy of 4.5.5 but as I wasn’t the original purchaser, how can I do that :-(
April 13, 2019 at 2:47 pm #1090360Hi,
Oh I see now, I assume that you are no longer in contact with the original purchaser, and they didn’t transfer the license to you.
I recommend purchasing a license which will allow you to download the latest theme files and you will also get 6
months of support in our forum. But our best value is to check the box to “Extend support to 12 months” for only a few dollars more.

GuestWell I guess I am stuck then. As the hosting provider, I am not prepared to spend money on a clients website. The client is pretty IT illiterate and can’t see why they should spend any money as the site is currently working.
But, PHP 5.6 has now passed end-of-life and we need to move all the websites to platforms running PHP7.2 and I cant do that on this site because the Enfold theme at 1.3.1 is not 7.2 compatible and dies with 500 server errors.
Hmmmm, rock and a hard place :-(

GuestTemporary solution was to fix the code. Turned out to be only 1 line in the framework and a number of warnings.
April 14, 2019 at 12:50 am #1090471Hi,
That is great news! Who would have thought such an old version could be patched?
But, please forward the info to the client to purchase a license and update the theme, it could save a lot of headaches later because most WordPress installs auto update now and with their new direction and the block editor, this will most likely break the sites using the older versions.
I know you said the client is not very WP savvy, which is ok because we often help members with updating via FTP.
I will leave this ticket open so if you ever reply again about the user being ready to update I will see it :)Anyways, well done and have a great day.

GuestI spoke a little soon, there are still more changes to make but at least the basic site is working (mostly), I’ll try fixing some of the other issues as well. The customer is also mostly happy at this stage.
April 14, 2019 at 10:15 am #1090556Hi Glen Eustace,
Do you need any more help with any of those issues?
Best regards,
