@cherryadvertising, I was waiting to hear from you that you have updated the theme and checked again. As in my post above. For your version there was a few issues such as your first one and this one which was corrected in v4.5.5
I recommend updating and expect these to be cleared up.Best regards,

SergeyMarch 24, 2019 at 5:24 pm #1082267Hi,
@Cherryadvertising Sure, I will need FTP access, since this is not your thread, I would recommend opening a new one to add your ftp & admin login and password, because it’s not private here. Please post a link to your new thread here so I can find it.Best regards,
MikeMarch 27, 2019 at 1:27 am #1083328Installing version 4.5.5 fails for me. I end up with a broken site (just displaying blank pages). The backend doesn’t work either, so I had to FTP and delete the theme directory which reverted to a default theme, then I had to upload an older version of Envato (3.7 is what I had physically on my hard disk) and my site is now up again…
But I can’t update.
Thanks for your help
FedericoMarch 27, 2019 at 3:51 am #1083365Hi,
@fchieli if you are using v3.7 there is a good chance that your PHP version is also outdated, that is below v5.6. Please check this and ensure you are using at least v5.6
Another possibility is that when you updated Enfold via FTP you overwrote the theme directory with the new version. This will also crash the site, please ensure the rename the old theme directory (enfold-old) or delete it via ftp and upload the new version in it’s own directory (enfold).Best regards,

April 7, 2019 at 8:59 am #1087892Hi Emiliozanetti,
What you are getting are warnings and should not affect anything in the theme, the messages are not referring to anything in the theme either. It looks to be coming from plugins.
Best regards,
RikardApril 8, 2019 at 2:12 pm #1088280Ok , Thank you
But the theme doesn’t update with this warnings and I’m still using Version 4.4.1.
In warnings “There’s a problem downloading the theme”.
Can i solve this?Thank you
April 9, 2019 at 5:10 am #1088528Hi,
With version 4.4.1 you will need to manually update, please see the instructions within this thread on how to manually update, it is quite easy.Best regards,
MikeApril 9, 2019 at 6:49 pm #1088801I’ve tried updating the theme with the plugin. The result was a HTTP ERROR 500.
I have a child theme configuration. Could this cause the issue? Please help me out. I have attached wp-admin login and ftp credentials.

April 10, 2019 at 6:39 am #1088976Hi,
@norm4u The error 500 is an Internal Server Error, I tried to work around this by updating your site via FTP, which typically works.
But I found that your child theme has an old header.php that is not supported and I believe it is causing the crash.
But when I examine your header.php it looks as though it contains a custom filter for displaying your shop pages so you will need to either remove the header.php or add your custom code to a up-to-date header.php.
I have uploaded the updated theme as “enfold-new” after you correct the header.php you can rename your current parent theme folder (“enfold”) to “enfold-old” via ftp, and then rename “enfold-new” to “enfold” and then see if your site loads correctly. If it should crash the via FTP switch the names back and your site will load again as before.
I will do this for you if you wish, but you will have to decide how to address the header.phpBest regards,

I edited your child header.php file and added your filter however issue was still occurring. Functions.php file of your child theme had content from parent themes functions.php file and that was causing the issue. I deleted duplicate parts and your site loads correctly now. Please review your website.
Best regards,
YigitApril 30, 2019 at 10:50 pm #1095959I’ve been delaying dealing with this for a few months… until today. Unfortunately it’s not going smoothly. I’ve tried both the plug-in app update method, and ftp, and both result in the same problem. They bring the site down with an HTTP ERROR 500. I saw a previous mention about this, but didn’t see the solution. Please advise. Thank you.
May 2, 2019 at 3:51 am #1096300Hi,
@gmclemore we would be able to assist better with admin login and ftp access, please open a new thread with this info in the Private Content area. As this is not your thread, your info won’t be private here.
After you open a new thread please link to it here so we can find it easier.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.Best regards,
MikeMay 4, 2019 at 2:14 am #1097041Hello,
I am updating via ftp and followed the process laid out and now the site is down with this error:
Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /data/23/3/63/9/3063498/user/3413304/htdocs/institutional/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php on line 31
Please help
Rob HolmesMay 4, 2019 at 3:06 pm #1097227Hi,
@trobh1963 Thanks for the login, I don’t see the error on your site so I assume that you rolled the update back to bring your site back up. I see that you are using PHP v5.3.29 & Enfold v3.2.3 & WP v5.1.1
Please update your PHP to v5.6 first, then update Enfold to v4.5.6 via FTP.
Please note that if you update via FTP, you will need to remove the old theme folder “enfold” first (via FTP) then upload the new “enfold” folder at /wp-content/themes/enfold/
Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors.
Then if you wish to update your PHP to v7.x you can, but I recommend checking that PHP v5.6 works first.
We can assist with the FTP update, but you will need to ask your webhost to assist with PHP v5.6 first. Please also note that your login above is not private, so please change the password and if you want help with the FTP update, please open a new thread with admin login & ftp access in the Private Content area. Please also upload your new copy of the Enfold theme as “enfold-new” in your /wp-content/themes/ directory.
You can link to your new thread here, so we can find it easily.Best regards,
